I'm a lover of cemeteries, mysteries, and family history. I feel a keen sense of time and mortality (not as morbid as it sounds), and feel it's important to catalogue headstones/cemeteries and record inscriptions before it's too late. |
I'm a born archivist, and so I find myself digging for information, whether the memorial is "mine" or not. It's not for glory or to "do better," but rather to contribute and help folks be remembered.
A little note on photos: I will give up a photo slot if there's no room and a better photo comes along. I will not delete a photo just because you don't like it.
I'm going to shout this because I'm really feeling it right now: DON'T USE COMMENTS IN THE FLOWERS SECTION TO MAKE EDITS! That's not the place for it--I don't get notified when you leave flowers, so I can't make the necessary edits because I DON'T HAVE THE INFORMATION! Please use the proper edit functions, it's what they're here for!
And one last thing--if you chalk, shaving cream, flour, powder, or otherwise apply a foreign substance (other than snow or plain water) to a stone to get a picture, you are violating the rules of the site. Please do not attach any such photo to my memorials. Mirrors, lights (Walmart has a great 1000 lumens LED for under fifty bucks), or an off-shoe flash (good reconditioned flashes are available and affordable) can make a world of difference, making illegible stones clear as day. Please avail yourself. Believe me, I understand wanting to be able to read the stone, but vandalism isn't the answer.

Find A Grave Memorial# 70815032
I just came across this gent's obituary, and he was an interesting guy--was one of President Lincoln's guards and served as doorkeeper at the White House. If you'd like, I'll send it along as a jpeg.
Take a look - I found an obit. Let me know if yours is different.

You are kind to share information on Edward Curry, but could I ask what city does the "Evening Star" publish in? I appreciate every bit of information

Find A Grave Memorial# 97728189
This memorial is for the daughter, not the wife. There is a shared stone for Hattie/Park/Ruth, but no photo yet. Hattie, the mother, died in California where her daughter lived so it seems more likely that Hattie the mother is buried in California. She is found on the California Death Index.

|c smith||Lost options limited, need whereabout funtions.|
Yes the option is lost, dead, limited, but it is not functional with Find-a-grave’s clickable-links “cemeteries” in the area and that little information we know of is our last known whereabouts where the bodies could be found that is the final goal, to be found.
If bodies are lost or destroyed then that is factual and that option does not link to the last known whereabouts of real families or whom further research is needed. Find a grave isolates these names into the names-data- base without giving the last known whereabouts the opportunity to work with the volunteers and communities related.
This is tough to explain, but I have very good results with volunteers and the community finding the unknown graves using last known areas as wild cards or in mathematics, variables.
The find-a-grave system is not perfect, but it is what it is now and sometimes someone will get lucky as I have to find the missing information and lead them to their own lost souls.
The burden is clear; research is not easy so far away. There are arguments, but here is the thing; this is not trying to make a legal case of unknowns, and we like more ways to find opportunities to find a way to get the job done with less hardship for all of us.
I’m sorry for my misplaced markers, but I record all findings/searches on the memorials before marker is moved to the next cemetery with results and facts of last known whereabouts. Good Luck.

Thank you for attention in this search of said body.
The whereabouts of (Memorial# 102187062)indicates it is misplaced without further description.
I added some clarity for the interested families and for the memorial's common efforts.

Many years ago, I first visited Congressional with my mother and have made visits there ever since. She is now 104 and has moved from Md. to my sister's 4 hours away in Virginia. On one of our jaunts, we stopped at Rock Creek to look for family. At that time, I was not taking photos of gravestones.
If I supply 2 memorial numbers, would you have time to take photos for me at Rock Creek?
Today, I was able to locate death certificates for other Crawford family at Congressional.
Some will need census and/or obits to complete.
It is nice to connect with someone that has the same goals in mind. Please let me know if you locate any errors in my postings.

I reside in the DC area and have visited Congressional and viewed the large record book. The old website used to have information from the book, including site owners and some obits.
The death date used on many memorials that have no birth dates is actually the burial date. Slowly, I hope to correct the memorials that I have created to reflect the correct information.
Hope this helps,

On the list of children that I e-mailed, Mary Jane and Charles have been omitted from the update.
Frances listed as stepdaughter is correct, as I understand the 'family' history. I may not have the bottom half in the correct order - but it's close. They are all gone now.
