Bio Photo Introduction:
Bobby Wayne Smith,is a 5th Generation Texan,
and the 4th Great-Grandson of T.R.H.Poteet;
who migrated from Middle Tennessee of Overton County,Tennessee to Texas, to what became Paris, Lamar County, Texas.
T.R.H.Poteet was accredited for naming Paris by
The Lamar County Historical Society. T.R.H.Poteet
also held the seat of County Treasurer during the Civil War Period.
I spend a lot of time researching The Poteet Family Geneology and The Rich Histories of our Families Heritage.I have been to several of the Southern East States taken Grave Photo's of many of our Poteet Families. I Hope those who visit this site will enjoy all the hard work and time and money that has been put fourth in this effort.
I also encourage Our Poteet Families to Leave Family Portraits of those who have gone before us,so that thier memory will not be forgotten. The hard work that I have put fourth is done out of the Love I have for all our Families. My Goal is to record as many Poteet family members as Possable. Thank You and I hope you enjoy the Photo's. Please Contact me if you have any Imformation you would like to share.
Bobby W.Smith.

Wilson Ransom Swinney
Just a quick note on a Civil War military reference for correction. W.R. Swinney actually served with Co. K, DeBray's 26th Texas Cavalry, not the 5th Texas Infantry. His military records are listed under W.R. "Sweeny" but he signs "Swinney". Widow's pension for Sarah Skinner-Swinney also confirm this reference.

Oak Grove Cemetery
Hello
I want to give you edit info about the Oak Grove Cemetery you created on Find A Grave.
There is no edit option for cemetery locations, etc. Or if there is, I can't find it.
Anyway, Perhaps you will see fit to edit that cemetery location as follows:

The Oak Grove cemetery at Leafdale, LaRue County, Kentucky is located at the previous site of the Oak Grove Methodist Church. The church is no longer there. Oak Grove and Buffalo Methodists churches merged with and became part of Wesley Meadows Methodist Church. Wesley Meadows is located at the Crossroads on Hwy 210 between Leafdale and Buffalo.
The Coordinates for the Oak Grove cemetery are:
37deg33'46.85"N
85deg39'50.97"W
It is located at the intersection of hwy 470 and hwy 1794 next to the first driveway on right when you turn southeast on 1794.

Thanks
Russell Perkins

poteet
My Willis family in Missouri intermarried with the Poteet family & I have considered the possibility that my g=g=g grandmother Catherine Willis may have been a Poteet (among many possibilities) I believe my Poteets came from Lee Co VA but there is a strong possibility of Native American ancestry in this family - surnames Willis, Cates, McCorkle, Martin & Poteet. I can supply quite a bit of info but am getting nowhere with my quest to id Catherine & her husband, let alone any Native ancestry. Would love to exchange info with anyone interested.
