Retired bean counter now tracking ancestors instead of numbers. Mother of three and grandmother of five fascinating grandchildren. Married to the same man for 50+ years.|
Knew the names and cemeteries of all my grandparents and Ggrandparents before I could write. On one family trip we stopped at the Steekee Cemetery in Loudon,Tn. I transcribbed stones because my mother was so excited she couldn't write. Now 50+ years later I still use those notes!

Your so very welcome, Glad to be able to help people see something that is far away. The office has not help me at all. I tried once and they said that there was no one buried here by that name. The request was one of the oldest about 6 years. By chance I found him about 2 weeks later by just walking the rows. Others I've helped has been told the same thing and were happy to finally see them and know they were correct the entire time.
Hello, Mary. How are you related to the Pate's?
I've posted a transcript from the Salem Lutheran Cemetery in Lamartine that indicates Dr. GA Meeker's burial is there. I think this tends to confirm that the stone there is the correct location.
It's worth noting, though, that the transcriber had January, not March for the death month.
It's still on my list to check it out for myself the next time I'm up that way.

I'm hoping you are happy about this find! It seems his stone was missing. I can see where you would be wanting to be sure, though.
He was the earliest doctor this west in the U.S. according to one source. That's pretty cool. Was he your relative?
Yes, the church does have records dating that far back even. My ancestor who died in 1861 was verified there. One can write to the Salem Cemetery Association.
My sources for this were multiple. For one, the gravestone itself reads "George A. Meeker M.D." which greatly narrows to whom this stone could refer. I also found a Findagrave.com memorial in WV (yours, I believe) that indicates he is believed to be buried in "Clarion or Armstrong" counties. Ancestry.com indicates he was living in Beaver Township, Clarion County in 1850 and his widow there in 1860.
I live many miles away from Salem, but find myself in that area once a year. I have tagged it to check more information the next time I'm there.
Good luck in your further research.

You are welcome. I try to take advantage of these days of moderate temps - it will soon be too hot! This cemetery is not well cared for and many stones are broken or brush has grown up and taken over others. However, it was mostly shady and pretty wild flowers.
|Debbie Hilliard||Scott Cemetery|
I live near Millican, TX and have been trying to locate Scott Cemetery to fill a couple of photo requests you have posted. I cannot find any info on this cemetery. I noticed on one of the death certificates that the undertaker's name was Edd Scott - maybe a connection?

Hello! So I wanted to write to you and tell you the situition I ecountered finding Edmond's grave.So I found Edmond's wife's grave, and two of her daughters, but separating the three of them are two unknown graves. I want to believe that one of these is Edmonds grave. But I don't want to post the picture of the unknown grave and say it is Edmond's. But if you would like me to post the picture please let me know.
