I have been doing family research since the late 1970's. I have been associated with the Jefferson County (KS) Genealogical Society, being the organizing President and since served in that capacity two more times. I live in Winchester, Kansas. My wife, Marie and I have been married 62 years. We have four living children, 11 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. My family research interests are many, but especially Riley, Nettleton, Curry and Fulton. We have many ancestors buried in Atchison and Jefferson Counties, Kansas. In addition, I have served the United Methodist Church as organist for the past 50 years and have served the Winchester and Jefferson County North Schools as statistician for over 60 years. I was the Director of the Winchester Public Library at the time the present building was constructed. |

You have gravestone photos on the memorials for this couple.- Find A Grave Memorial# 86130417 and 430. There are no death dates on the stones. We are planning a Hay family reunion (Ward and Irvine as well) for May 2015 and would like to make contact with family of this couple. Would you have any further information? Feel free to pass my email to them if you have.

Thank you so much for sending the obituary for Mary Allen. I have added it to her Memorial. I think all the information on the Memorial meshes together very well. And to think that for many years I had no idea whatever happened to Mary! It just goes to show what persistent research by many people can accomplish - and how useful "Find a Grave" is!

Hi, thank you for taking the time to send me the obituary for Peter Simmons. I had one that has been handed down in the family that was a little larger but yours had some information it did not have. Wish you the very best, Donna

Thank you for adding the info I gave you for Mildred. You were very quick to respond. Appreciate that so much. I believe that I sent a typo in the bio. I have sent the correction in the edit on the memorial. Sorry for that.

Awesome Raymond... how exciting! I am aware of the works you mentioned but have never seen them and would LOVE to check them out. So then you do already know how fabulous and rich in history our Riley line is. Your kids are close to my age (I'm 60 tomorrow) and I hope they are interested in these things too. I would encourage you to write about the Riley's but I do know how time slips away, and I hope you will find time to do it. My hope is also to find as many of the still living Riley lines, and pull them back together in the interest of not losing who we are and what we know about our ancestors. That's why I told you to find me on Facebook, but I figure you don't do Facebook. But I bet your kids and grand kids do, and please encourage them to find me Karen Zimmer Sutton Brooks and I will add them as friends. I have made some progress in adding lost members of the Riley family lines as my Facebook friends and post a lot of Riley info there..... Glad to find you Raymond and God bless you for all your effort! Karen

I believe I did find you in the 11th generation just like me:
11 Raymond Eugene Riley DOB: Jul. 21, 19XX POB: Atchison,Atchison County, Kansas DOD: Living/2012 Burial: Reformed Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Winchester, Jefferson County,Kansas +Ester Marie Fulton DOB: Dec. 15, 19XX DOD: Living/2012 (I deleted birth year here because of privacy)
If so, your father and mother is 10th generation Paul and Hazel. Paul's parents are 9th generation Claude and Katherine. Claude's parents are 8th generation John and Malvena. Claude's parents are 7th generation Henderson and Margaret. Henderson's parents are 6th generation Isaac and Polly. Isacc's parents are 5th generation John Wright Riley and Sarah Elsberry. Not sure you are aware that Sarah's mother was a Wright and that line has a LOT of George Washington connections. You see this surname a lot in the naming of Riley, and several Rileys and Wrights married each other in the 4th-6th generations. The Frances Wright that married Gerrard Riley was the sister of Agatha Wright Elsberry, the mother of our Sarah Elsberry. They were both grand-daughters of Maj Francis Wright, who married the sister of George Washington's grandfather, so ole George was in our Riley line long before he was even born. Fun stuff to know... !
