With much of my immediate family growing in and around the Washington D.C area for generations, I was never overly curious about family history. After a friend who was more interested than I found photos of relatives gravesites in other states who were born during the time of Andrew Jackson I was amazed. Even a marker for my grandmother's unnamed infant son which I had seen in home movies had been photographed by someone.|
I am most familiar with Arlington Cemetery, Oak Hill and Cedar Hill Cemetery on Pennsylvania Avenue. I have taken many photos for my own enjoyment and for friends over the years, but realize others are often not so near.

Since you seem to be interested in Holy Rood Cemetery, I thought that you might find this link interesting. It is a link to the Holy Trinity Church records that have recently been digitized by Georgetown University and are available to look at. I found several of the people that I was searching for in these records. You should check out the death records since when they refer to the "Upper Graveyard", they are referring to Holy Rood.

Thanks for the information on John J Shanley's parents. I agree with you and have linked John J. to his parents' memorials. It is nice to see the gravestone uncovered.
Mary Crown Hilleary was my g-g-g grandmother, about whom I have quite a bit of information. She married Walter Henry Hilleary on September 26, 1843, at Holy Trinity Church. This was her second marriage. Her first marriage was to Clinton Winsett in 1834 at the Dumbarton Methodist Church. John Wimsatt was her son by that first marriage. I'd be very happy if anyone researching the Winsett/Wymsatt family could tell me what happened to John--and his father Clinton.

Thanks you for transferring my gg granddad Pat Tobin. And thanks again for the additional photo you posted yesterday showing the relationship of his stone and that of his baby daughter Mary C.
I strongly suspect that the face of his stone that is up against the bush is marked with the name of his wife, Ellen Theresa. If you're ever there again, perhaps you could have a look. I plan to make a pilgrimage there myself by and by, but right now I'm recovering from a badly broken ankle. Perhaps next spring.
It is no coincidence that his and my first names are the same. Our middle names are the same too - in that neither of us have one. My dad was William Patrick after his grand-dad, W. P. Tobin - son of Patrick. I named one of my sons Daniel Patrick.
This means a lot to us.
THANK YOU SO MUCH MICHAEL !! BLESSINGS ! IRISH BLESSINGS !! I CAN SUPRISE MY COUSINS FOR A CHANGE .

But his God that hath bereft us
He will all our sorrows heal''
