Bio and Links
Bio Photo I'm Peter Hakze, residing in the city of Almere in the center of the Netherlands, 15 miles east of Amsterdam. Since about 1985 I'm investigating a.o. my mother's family Van der Tuin (= Of the Garden). In March/April 1893 Johannes van der Tuin and his wife Margje Groen (= Green) emigrated with their children from NL to South Dakota, Charles Mix County, Edgerton (or Overijssel), a settlement near Platte. Margje's parents and siblings Groen emigrated at the same time to the same place. I'm interested in all what happened there to them, so if you have some info for me which isn't already on my Rootsweb site, I would be very grateful.
Since a few years I'm also very interested in all other Dutch families that emigrated from the Netherlands to the USA and Canada incl. their descendants and I like very much to improve their FAG memorials with more info and photos, create new memorials for them and link them to their ancestors in the Netherlands.

Sybren Tymstra
One more thing! It's not much, but I just found a death notice saying Sybren's funeral arrangements were handled by Westwood Village Mortuary in Los Angeles.

Unfortunately, I'm not related at all to this family, and have no information other than what you've given me and what was in the obituary. If you or Anja would like to manage Frans and his wife, or know anyone that would, I'd be happy to transfer! :-D

Hi Peter!

Thank you so much for the info on Frans (aka Francis)! I've written out a bio based on what you sent me, his obituary, and an article from when he married his wife. Feel free to check it out :-)

Jantje Meppelink translation
Thank you for the translation on the birth certificate of Jantje Meppelink.

Would I be correct in asumming that Municipality Emmem was known as Municipality Dalen at the time of her birth?

Hi, I am the person in charge of the Poor Farm.
I serve on the Buchanan County Pioneer Cemetery committee. There are about five or six markers, they only have numbers on them and they were in a pile, so we can't even tell you where at in this very very small cemetery they were buried.

Thank you so much for the link to his story. Quite an amazing one indeed. I see it was from one of the so called "heritage" books. Many towns put them together and I have acquired more than a few myself.
This is certainly one of the very best written ones. The early days in Canada were hard but good times as well. A different era when people helped people and families were close.
I certainly enjoyed reading this story!

Greetings from British Columbia, Canada.
It is not often we get requests for edits from so far away.
Thank you for his mother's name. It has now been added.
All the very best to you!

There is a record of Henry Schwanakamp (died 1893) and Mrs Schwanakamp (died 1888) buried at Forest Hill Cemetery, section 2 Block 86. They do not have headstones. There is also a small monument, difficult to read, the name is F.H.J. Genevan, no dates. If you would like, I can take a picture of that section, it is just grass. I see the spelling is a little different.
