Original Find-A-Grave member #46928674 [Aug 2007]|
I've been a ROOTS lady for about 38 years and have always enjoyed helping others find their roots also. I transcribed the early Jasper County, Texas Marriage Records back in the 80's and donated them to the Southeast Texas Genealogical & Historical Society and was their editor for "Yellowed Pages" for a few years until family health issues stepped in the way.
My first "online" adventure was learning how to hand code html when I took the responsibility for 10 southeast Texas counties under the TXGenWeb Project and didn't have a clue about coding websites. It took some fast learning.
About 10 years ago I started hosting tombstone photos online and had about 14,000 back when hosting space was pretty expensive. After my Mom became ill and needed extensive care, my husband and I cared for her at our home for three years and I closed the hosting account during that time frame.
It's great to see the effort behind Find-A-Grave and I'm pleased to see there are so many "gravers" around the country. The "linking" system is wonderful for connecting families when properly used.
Thank God for computers, the internet & and digital cameras !! From spending hours & hours in courthouses, cemeteries & libraries to transcribing census records & visiting cemeteries in my jammies. GenLife is wonderful & rewarding.

TODAY I VISITED YESTERDAY
by Pat Conner Rice
Today I visited yesterday,
And walked among the graves
Of family and friends from long ago,
Whose memory had begun to fade.
The graves were unattended,
As were my thoughts of them.
When a vision of the ages past,
Brought back my sense of kin.
The vision showed the church lawn,
On a crisp summer day.
The table spread, the food prepared,
And friends who would break bread.
All my relatives were there- Both young and old........
Grandma and I walked hand and hand,
Sharing stories never told.
We laughed and cried and shared our thoughts.
And I found the friend I thought I'd lost.
As the sun began to fade...
The church bell rang out clear.
Grandma and the others slowly disappeared...
Today I visited yesterday,
And now the memory is strong -
Of the family from which I came AND NOW BELONG...
"Nothing is ended until it is forgotten".

Hello Barbara, I have a relative named Ralph Howard Akins. His death certificate, signed by the undertaker, says he is buried in Evergreen Cemetery, Jasper, Jasper County, Texas. It also lists the date of burial. The SE Texas Regional Gedcom Project also lists him as being buried in Evergreen Cemetery. He married later in life and his wife outlived him by 40 years. I had a memorial on Findagrave listing him as being in Evergreen Cemetery. There is a duplicate memorial showing him as being buried in Hooks Cemetery, Kountze, Hardin County, Texas, where his wife was from.
Were the listings on the SE Texas Regional Gedcom Project taken from death certificates or were they actually taken by "walking" the cemeteries?
Any information would truly be appreciated,
Did you receive the Chrisrmas ornament with your grandson's name on it?
Thinking of you!

I hope you don't mind my transferring my memorials that you have posted pictures for. They are not related to me, and I'd rather they be managed by someone in the area.
|Pamela Thompson||Gravestone Photo Permission|
I am happy to see that you photographed the gravestone of Bernice Alford Bankston in Evergreen Cemetery (Memorial# 38391657).
I would like to add this gravestone photo to the (non-profit) Alford American Family Association's collection of Nevada Obituaries, where her obituary is included. You can see the current collection at http://www.alfordassociation.org/OBITS/NVOBIT.htm.
May I have your permission to include your gravestone photos? If so, I will add this to the photo caption:
Photo from [cemetery name, city, county, state]—www.findagrave.com
Permission granted by the photographer, RootsLady-BYD [or your name if you like]
And thanks so much for your gravestone photo work!

I see you have added a picture for Pauline Larlin Adams. On your picture you show her to be buried in Brookland Cemetery, Sabine County, Texas. If this is correct I will move the Memorial out of Jasper Cemetery to the correct one. Please let me know.

If you are not related to the Lewing Family would you mind transferring the memorial of Flora Sebree Lewing #106262314? I am trying to get all my Lewing Family linked together. Thanks Pat Berel
