Bio and Links
Bio Photo I have been interested in family history since the mid-1970's and interested in cemeteries since childhood when we often walked to Lewis Cem a small rural cemetery where we read the stones, told ghost stories and noted the tragedy of infant mortality.
Much research has been done on my Gerrish family since they were an early New England family arriving in Newbury, MA in 1639. But much less is known of my mother's family so at this time I am more interested in learning about her Small, Holton, Ramsay, Ogle, and Light families, the first 2 in PA and the others in Canada, Scotland and Ireland.
Besides my own family I am deeply involved in research of the small rural cemeteries of Carrigan Twp, Marion Co, IL: Lewis, Harrison (where approximately 70% of the burials have some connection to my 3x-Great Grandfather, Henry Gerrish), Phelps and Wisher (listed here as Burton/Kissner/Wisher).
Any new information to add to the memorials I have created as well as information on my own lines is greatly appreciated.
Though my ratio of managed memorials to created memorials is high, I AM NOT a hoarder aka number person. Most of my memorials which I did not create came from the accounts of deceased or inactive contributors. If I have no connection whatever to a memorial that I manage I am always happy to find someone who would like to take it over. And I am just as happy to receive any and all that have a connection with my extended family.

You may use tombstone photos which I have posted for your personal, non-commercial, non-internet use without asking further permission. When taking photos from a memorial please document my full name as it appears here and the memorial number from which it was taken.
I have several hundred old family photos from 85 or more years ago. I have extremely mixed emotions about posting them online because I know there are people who will copy them and claim them and treat them as their own. But I want other family members to have an opportunity to see these pictures. Please contact me for permission to use any of these family pictures.
Please let me know if you have a photo identical to any of mine, because that would mean we are probably related. I love to hear the stories behind the photos and make connections to new found relatives.
DO NOT POST ANY OF MY PHOTOS ONLINE ANYWHERE! That includes other FindaGrave memorials.

In your biography you state that you add biographical information in the virtual flowers section. This is against our guidelines. The virtual flower section is only to be used for a tribute to the deceased. Please adjust your member biography as well. Thank you for you understanding and cooperation.

Thank You.

What a wonderful compliment. Find A Grave is a wonderful source of information, but without continuity and accuracy, it just wreaks havoc on the genealogy world.

In the matter of Rita Osborne
If any one is interested, please note that we have for over a year, attempted to connect our grand uncle to his family to no avail and good old Rita refuses. After providing her with documentation we were left no choice but to add derogatory, politically charged and/or inappropriate flowers.

Here's are three of the flower offerings that Rita has chosen to remove from the memorial.

The marriage record of Margaret (Wetherwax) Dorman to James Small shows a marriage date of 15 May 1896. This was a late in life marriage long after John Bentley Small was born. MARGARET (WETHERWAX) SMALL WHO IS BURIED AT GREENMOUNT CEMETERY IS NOT THE MOTHER OF JOHN BENTLEY SMALL!

The 1900 Census for Philadelphia shows a Margaret Small at the same address as shown on the death record Ms. Osborne is using as “proof” that J.B. Small’s mother is buried at Greenmount. On that census Margaret is shown as the mother of only one child and shows her father born in NY and mother born in Mass. John Bentley Small was one of ten children of W.C. and Margaret Small. The 1880 census for Venango Co. Penn. shows Margaret Small with W.C. Small and showing her parents both born in Penn. John Bentley Small’s death cert shows his mother “Margaret Holton” was born in “Penna.” proof that the Margaret Small buried at Greenmount IS NOT the right Margaret Small for John’s mother.

The Margaret Small buried at Greenmount Cemetery in Philadelphia IS NOT Margaret HOLTON Small who was the mother of John Bentley Small. Margaret at Greenmount Cemetery was born in Boston (as shown in her death record) and lived in Philadelphia. Her maiden name is not shown on this death record. John B. Small’s mother was born in Meadville, Penn. and is buried beside her husband, William C. Small in Oak Hill Cemetery in Bradford Penn, per the burial lot deed. The W.C. Small family had lived in Bradford since the early 1880’s. See Memorial # 143036574.
- Jane Gerrish Waddell, Grand-niece of J.B. Small.

Per find a grave policy...
Do not leave derogatory or politically charged notes. Inappropriate notes will be removed, and individuals who continue to leave derogatory or politically charged notes will have their account closed. Additionally, biographical information and obituaries are not to be included in a virtual flower.

RE: Edit for Daniel H.Green FaG# 20187477
Hi Jane,

Thanks for your note. Before I sent the edit regarding Joseph not being Daniel H. Green's father, I sent you a message under the "Suggest any other correction or addition" edit for Joseph Green's page. Did you not receive it?

In that message I detailed the children and birthdates of Joseph Green and Catherine Wheat, showing Daniel could not be their child. I gave the URL for Daniel's MO death certificate.

It shows Daniel was born in KY, his father was a Joseph Green who was born in KY. According to census and other records, the Joseph Green buried in Harrison Co. was born in NC and lived in IN before moving to MO. He never lived in KY.

Catherine Wheat Green's gravestone says she was the "wife of J" and they are buried in the same cemetery. She and Joseph Green were married 26 Jan 1836 in Jefferson Co., IN. She died 17 May 1878. Joseph Green is listed in the 1880 census as a widower, living with his son James. All of the children of Joseph Green and Catherine Wheat were born in IN.

If you didn't receive my earlier message with all of the names and dates of the children of Joseph Green and Catherine Wheat, please let me know, and I will send it again. I am related to Catherine, so I have information on her life with Joseph, and census records showing some of their children in Harrison Co., MO.

I do not know what happened to the father of Daniel Henderson Green. It appears from research he died before the family came to MO. Elizabeth Henderson Green probably came to live with her son in her old age, died and was buried in Harrison Co., where Daniel and wife, Caroline, were living at the time.

Please let me know if you need further information, and thank you for caring about getting documented information. You are a credit to Find-A-Grave!

Jolliff Cemetery Clinton County
Hello Jane: As a centralia researcher, I noticed the city name for this cemetery is Central City. I think it would be more correct to list it as Centralia, IL.

Located on Linn Road, near the old Hansemann's Gun Shop....also found by going north on Beech Street from route 161 West and Beach Street intersection.
Thank you

c.a. hatfield

Linn Road can be reached by travelling north on Jollif Bridge Road from Walmart at Rt. 161 West.
