Bio and Links
Bio Photo I live in the Carytown section of Richmond, Virginia, USA, being the bygone capital of the Confederacy. I grave the area of New Jersey to Georgia, looking for family burial sites.

And often while walking those cemeteries I'll see some neglected or damaged or sinking markers, so I tidy them up (or sometimes get even more involved) and take a picture and post it, feeling like I might be their last best chance to be remembered for some future researcher. We all have the same goal, we're working for posterity, and I think this data base has become a number-one stop for any family history researcher.

I'm a U.S. Navy veteran, Vietnam era, duty aboard the USS Canopus AS-34. I raised a family, but lost my wife. I made a career in newspaper production, am now retired, and enjoy volunteer gravestone photography.

The best way I've found to get a readable gravestone photo is to redirect sunlight to create shadows in the carved surface.

Anyone who wants to use my photos may do so, without any restriction, so help yourself. They have been posted here for you to use. And if you want a transfer, simply ask for it.

RE: Crewe Cemetery ~ Bagby and all
Oh yes, absolutely, Rich! It's my intention to get back into photographing when the warm Spring days arrive ... I may have over-estimated winter joy! :)

I noticed a few days ago that there are several more requests for that cemetery since I was last there.

Henrico County
Rich,
Thank you for the information on the correct cemetery. No clue how we managed to place him in that cemetery because his death certificate shows the proper one.

Hi Rich--
I guess I should not burn the midnight oil so much! I'm not sure that this is the same guy you referenced, but at least til tomorrow, I'll deposit him in the REAL cemetery and delete my own duplicate! (And to think, I just straightened out a similar problem with a "phantom" cemetery in Henrico!!)

Yeah, I think I'll take a little break :)
Thanks, Bobbi

Me again/Horner
Yes I have Harry's stone but believe me, it is severely overgrown with thick woven grass. The dates are covered. It looks like he died in 1983 or 1988. I will be going back and will take a small edger to remove the growth and clear it for a better picture. I will also redo Joan's. Hopefully I will find the Miller's.

Thanks for the photo! A shot of an Unknown seems to be the appropriate thing.
Thanks!

Re: requests @ Harleigh
I am working my way through Woodside Section and hopefully the snow has cleared. Many of the stones, if they are flat ground stones, are overgrown and are settled into the ground. I'll do my best to get the requests!

I finally got to the photos which are not the best. The pine straw was all over them and the color. I will try to get more in the spring. There is a fountain, in the big shrubs and close to the gazebo.
