June 17, 1948-July 20, 2014

Seale, AL- Major (USAF Ret.)Robert Carl Temple, 66, of Seale, AL, passed away at his home on July 20, 2014 after a courageous battle with cancer. Robert was born in Columbus, GA on June 17, 1948. He graduated from Chavala High School and went on to earn his undergraduate degree from Auburn University and his graduate degree from Embry-Riddle University.

Visitation will be held on July 23, 2014 from 6:00 - 8:00 PM at Striffler-Hamby Funeral Home in Columbus, GA. A graveside service will be held at 10:00 AM on July 24, 2014 at Parkhill Cemetery with Rev. John Bush and Rev. Thomas Weise officiating.

Robert is preceded in death by his parents, Roy L. Temple, Sr. and Mary Louise Poor, and his brother, Roy L. Temple, Jr. He is survived by his wife, Susan (Vogt), and his son, Jeff, and daughter-in-law, Valerie, his uncle, Dr. Joseph Yeager, sister-in-law, Susan (Prince), cousins, nieces and nephews, many family members and friends.

Major Temple retired from the USAF after a lengthy career as a decorated rotary wing and fixed wing pilot. He served in Desert Shield/Desert Storm and was awarded medals for both humanitarian and meritorious service. Following his retirement, Robert enjoyed growing hay, raising cattle and spending time with his family. He was an avid Atlanta Braves fan.

The family wishes to thank Dr. Suresh Nukala, the staff at the Amos Cancer Center, Gentiva Hospice, and his family and friends for their love and support throughout his illness.

Charles Elbert “Big Daddy” Detwiler, 90, King George, passed away Wednesday, May 27, 2015, at his home.
He had worked as a construction superintendent, and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Charles was also a member of Carpenter’s Local 132 for 65 years. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, and NASCAR, as well as being a motorcycle enthusiast.
Survivors include his wife of 69 years, Helen Detwiler; his children, Joan Shelton (John); Chuck Detwiler; Wendy Cole; Steve Detwiler (Fran); and Diane Davis (Kenny); 11 grandchildren; and 18 great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 3 – 5 p.m., Sunday, May 31, at Covenant Funeral Service, 1310 Courthouse Road, Stafford, VA.
A service will be held at noon, Monday, June 1, at the funeral home chapel. Burial will follow at Stonewall Memory Gardens in Manassas.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association, Memorials Processing Center, Box 5216, Glen Allen, VA 23058.
