I grew up in the northeast part of Dallas, Texas, in the Lake Highlands area. |
Now I live in the Colorado mountains in the remote Town of Alpine, Colorado, Pop. 12, just 16 miles westsouthwest of Buena Vista, Colorado with my wife Pat. The winters are long here at 9,300 feet, perfect for ancestry.com and Find-a-Grave work.
My family names include Lockett, Nash, Roberts, Bunn, Gilliland/Gililland, Stokes, Williams, Roberts and many, many more.
You have my permission to use any photos I have on Find A Grave for personal use.
If you find a memorial I manage and it is your family, or the person is a closer relative than I am, please contact me and I will be happy to change the management of the entry to you.
It is a pleasure to match family with family.

Just found that Robert E. "Bobby" Lockett, son of Woody and Evelyn (Hodges) Lockett died in 1997. I did also find that the second son Harry D. "Happy" Lockett was born in 1943 and is still living somewhere in Virgnia.

Just thought you might like to know that Woody B. Lockett married Evelyn Keith Hodges. She was the daughter of Robert E. and Ethel (Kellam) Hodges of Roanoke, Virginia. They later lived in West Virginia. In the 1930 Federal Census, Evelyn K. Hodges and her sister Elisabeth were living in Hopewell, Virginia, with there paternal uncle. Since I could not find their parents in any census subsequent to 1920, it seems likely that they died between 1920 and 1930. The Hodges were living with uncle and his two sons in Hopewell, VA, in 1930. Woody B. Lockett married Evelyn K. Hodges between 1930 and 1932 when there first son, Bobby Lockett was born. There was a second son born about 1943. I lived on the same street with him and his parents beginning about 1950 until I moved to another part of town in 1959. There second son was known by all as Happy Lockett which obviously was a nickname. I never knew his given name.

I transferred her to you. But I was reading that you are researching Gilliland also. Did you have any in the Ellis County, Navarro county, or Henderson County area? There is a small private cemetery that I am probably one of the few people that know about it. There is a Gilliland grave there. I would love to connect family to it.

Not sure how I've missed connecting with you before, but I think you will be interested to know we are only the first landowners of part of Royal F Locketts estate outside of direct descendants. We purchased the place in July 2012 from Pamela McCasland (Jefferson, Tx) and her sister Deanna Mitchell (Denver, Co) great-great granddaughters of Royal and Martha. Our farm is part of the estate left to Royal Sr's son Henry Clay, then deeded to his daughter Clara Lockett Smith, then deeded to her daughter Lucille Rand Smith, then to her nieces Pamela and Deanna, then to us. The farmhouse was built by Clara and Lee C Smith 100 years ago, her parents Henry Clay and Rebecca Locketts home still stands down the Lane from us and is owned by our neighbor Bob Hinkley.
We are in the process of a full restoration of the farmhouse and rejuvenation of the land. You can follow our progress at
Loved the newspaper article about the oil boom and your info on the size of the Lockett plantation. I will be making a collage and scrapbook of all the information I can gather for preservation of the history.
As we told Pamela and Deanna, this will always be the Lockett Legacy and our home will always be open to Lockett descendants to visit at anytime.

Thank you, Mike, for the information re: Penelope's husband. I have entered the information and am most grateful for the update. We are trying hard to make St. Paul's a resource for many as one of the earliest churches in NC. Thanks again! Candy
