Digging for ROOTS then exploring the BRANCHES.|
I've been researching our family history since 1996. This is an excellent site to be able to pay tribute to a person by providing a photo of the person & their gravestone plus a bio and key parts of their obit and relationship links to parents, spouse(s) and deceased children and it's FREE. It also allows others who have any relevant information to add it to their memorial. REQUEST - If you have a photo of someone that I have posted on F A G, please consider adding the photo to their memorial or send it to me and I will be happy to add it for you.
Since gravestones have such a high degree of accuracy, a photo can confirm or correct birth & death data. I also provide a link for individuals from our family tree on Rootsweb to their FindAGrave record. This is an excellent way for cemeteries to "give up their dead".
My great grandparents surname are O'Keefe/Kearns, Seitz/Gross, Shaughnessy/Collins & Blondin/Richard. My wife's great grandparents are Krapf/Ferbert, McGregor/McCracken, Remaklus/Knieper & Minnich/Lescher. And then for our grandson we added these surnames Leipold/Knauer, Loomis/Freeman, Greer/Nelson, Henry/Hunter, Saunders/Page & Woodworth/Snow.
There are 4330 memorials with photos, 98% headstones, and another 366 memorials that need photos added; who have been found or added from my extended family tree thanks to a great group of volunteers.
Trying to give back to FindAGrave and all who use it for all F A G has provided:
I have worked with my wife's cousin to set up memorials at Holy Trinity Cemetery in Bryant, IN for the 500+ headstone photos she took of headstones in the cemetery;
Set up @ 800 memorials at St. Peter's Cemetery in North Ridgeville, OH from an out of print book of gravestones from the cemetery;
Michelle Davis and I worked from 4,500+ death notices in the Cleveland papers to add memorials for those buried at All Souls Cemetery in Chardon, OH. This was a big job. Michelle volunteered to help me with this project and has made an invaluable contribution towards its completion. Thanks Michelle.
I have added @ 85 memorials for deceased Notre Dame nuns at Resurrection Cemetery on the grounds of the Motherhouse in Chardon.
I have set up many memorials for people not related to me in any way and would be happy to transfer to any relative or friend willing to maintain their memorial.
The Pending Edits page link s/b added to contributor tools.

I think you are right, the cemetery record could be wrong. Anna and Mary "Polly" could not have been born months apart. They have both 1818. They could not have been twins ... the Dennis family have twins in several generations but not born months apart. ha ha
|Donna Brummett||RE: Anna Eliza Whitman|
Yes, it is possible that she was born in 1813. Let me see if I can find my original photo and see if I can tell anymore about it. I have a cemetery book from Newberry Co. dated 1982 and they also recorded the date on the stone as 1818 but they could also be wrong. I'll let you know.

My records are for Peter Hawkins Dennis. I have a record from the cemeteries of Newberry Couonty 1982 for James, but I was not asking you to change yours. The information was just general. Thanks you

I am a descendant of James H. Dennis. Thank you for the memorial. I have been researching the Dennis family for over 20 years and all my family were in Newberry Co. SC in the 1790 census and in the book Annuals of Newberry pages 643, 637,443 by Sandra Lee Summers. If you want to use this information it may help. James was a brother to my Joseph Dennis.
James Dennis married Prudence Hawkins (daughter of Peter Hawkins).
James Dennis died around 1826 and Prudence Dennis died 1847.
1 Martha Dennis married Allen R. Lester (son of Charles Lester and _______Musgrove)
2 Hawkins Dennis (also known as P. H. Dennis)
3 Phebe Dennis born 4 July 1809 married Honorias Sheppard Jr. on 27 Dec 1827 died 7 June 1855
4 Joseph Dennis died by 1834
5 Rebecca Dennis still single in 1827
6 Jesse Dennis
|Michael Walter LaBoe||RE: LaBoes of Monroe, Mich|
I am descended from Lester LaBoe, a younger brother to Adolphus (Duff). Lester had four children, two boys and two girls. My father, Walter, is the youngest child born to Lester and he is still alive. Walter had two sons of which I am the first born. I have no photos of Lester LaBoe. I have a photo of his father, Columbus, who died in 1927. I also have a photo of Adolphus senior, the father of Columbus, who died in 1929.
I am interested in exchanging good quality scans of photos of Columbus and Caroline LaBoe, their children and spouses. I no longer live in Monroe County, but I was up this past week (Fair week) and researched the Monroe Evening News for the obituaries that I posted to the LaBoe Find-A-Grave postings. My email address is MWL2765@hotmail.com. If you know of any family members with pictures or other info, please feel free to pass my email address to them. Thanks.

Actually the pic does match. If you click on the pic, it will enlarge. Lena name is centered under the other names on the stone.
|Mary S.||RE: Mary Thrain/Train|
Well her own marker has Thrain, so you shouldn't be changing it on her memorial anyway (per Find A Grave guidelines). That's why I suggested adding the note to her Bio. Anyone researching her will have a much easier time of it now! :-)

Also remove the cropped and edited photo for my great-grandmother on my memorial for her as well. This is ALSO my original photograph added on ancestry back in Feb. 2008. Thanks!
|Allison Carr-Schaechtel||Memorial # 14792397|
Please remove the photo you added on my memorial for my great-grandfather. I normally wouldn't object to a person's photo being added on one of my memorials......but this is MY photo that I added to ancestry (only cropped and darkened). You may have gotten it from a person on ancestry who copied/edited my posted photograph, and I have reported that individual on ancestry. Thanks so much!
|Patricia Stout Raether||RE: James Harrison SAUNDERS|
Caretaker at cemetery remembers him being called "Harrison" also. However, according to cemetery register he is not buried there. Caretaker said his widow lived down the road from the cemetery but we did not want to bother her. We did walk the entire cemetery and found a James Saunders who had a memorial stone. This James passed away a long time ago. We looked at all the Saunders stones trying to match dates (1923-2013). None even close. Sorry.
