I authorize anyone to use my Find a Grave images in Wikipedia or their own family research, under the creative commons attribution license cc-by-2.5, where the attribution is 'R.E.H.'."

Going forward, unless there is a compelling reason, I will only transfer listings of people someone knew closely, i.e. parent, child or close friend. I'm sorry, but someone who died 200 years ago could be related to thousands of people. I prefer you add one of my listings under your umbrella using the virtual cemetery feature at Find A Grave. If you have additional information, I will happily add it and list you as the contributor.

Also, please do not ask me add an obituary to a person's memorial. See Find A Grave policy below:

Can I add an obituary to my interment listing?
It is best to not copy obituary notices from newspapers to an individual's memorial record unless you have permission from the newspaper to do so. In general, obituaries in newspapers are submitted by the family. If the obituary is added to the memorial record, it should list the newspaper and date the obit was printed. Find A Grave reserves the right to remove obituary notices from memorial records.
Obituaries for "famous" individuals are usually written by newspaper staff and can not be posted to Find A Grave.
Please do not include website addresses that may be listed in the obituary as they usually expire within a year after the obituary is printed.

RE: Brookside Cemetery James & Margaret Jacobus Burials Conflict
Hi Rich,

PA, I'm jealous...it's so nice down there & closer to the ancestor's stomping grounds than for me. I can thank WW II for that, the "Rents meeting while both in the Army, marrying & settling up here in the frost zone (comedian Jeff Foxworthy weighed in that we have 4 seasons here - almost winter, winter, still winter & pothole repair/road construction) for that distancing from the ancestors :|

I have to say, this situation is only the 2nd time I've encountered a dual burial here on Find A Grave.

The other got sorted out after some detective work & lots of help from people in MD - where the person was initially buried & supposedly was still buried & from people in SC where the man is actually buried. It turned out, he was moved closer to "home" when a National Cemetery was created in SC but the records at the original cemetery in MD were never updated w/any sort of notation regarding his removal to the SC Vets cemetery.

Here's what the other contributor, NotYourTime, had to say regarding the Jacobus burials:

"I checked the burial records again at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery for James C. Jacobus and his wife, Margaret (nee Berry) Jacobus, and it appears that they are buried here.

Some of the burial records will say "removal," which means that they were removed from another cemetery to Mt. Pleasant Cemetery.

Some of the burial records will say "removed." which means that they were removed from Mt. Pleasant Cemetery to another cemetery.

Not such words appear in the burial records for James or Margaret Jacobus.

I have not been to the Jacobus family plot at Mt. Pleasant*. It is possible that their tombstone is a cenotaph at the other cemetery."

From all appearances since there are existing records that state they were buried in Mt. Pleasant & do not have notations to the effect of their being removed to another cemetery, the Brookside marker may just turnout to be a cenotaph.

Jacobus' parents were from Bergen Co. so perhaps this is a plot owned by the family & Jacobus was first buried here then moved to the Mt. Pleasant location the following year when Margaret died.

The Family Search database of New Jersey, Deaths and Burials Index, 1798-1971 records Margaret's death as occurring in Newark, Essex Co. (Suspect perhaps she was living w/an adult child maybe)

*I've requested a photo of the Mt. Pleasant burial but I'm not sure it will answer much.

And I will do a photo request for Brookside but explain the situation & that what I really need is for someone to check the burial records to see if they shed any light on this matter. I intend to post on the message board, too.

It'll be interesting to learn just what went on & who's buried where.

Thanks for getting back to me & for all the hard work creating memorials.

Linda

Philip T McDevitt
Hi, Rich...regarding the memorial # 17265548 for Philip, the parents are correct but Jamie McDevitt and Veronica McDevitt listed as siblings are actually his widow, Jamie, and their daughter, Veronica, both whom are still living. I had a note from the niece of James and Margaret McDevitt with the correction. Would you consider deleting the memorial for Jamie and Veronica as they are still alive? Thank you, Kay

Brookside Cemetery James & Margaret Jacobus Burials Conflict
Hi Rich,

There has just appeared a conflict w/your memorials for James Jacobus & wife Margaret Berry Jacobus (Memorial# 102192483 & Memorial# 102192618) and a new set of memorials just created but for another cemetery.

Dates & other data match; you've both created memorials for the same people but in different places and you both have solid evidence of these people being buried where you each have them.

You took a photo of the grave marker which clearly shows this couple w/the same dates as in the new memorials.

The other memorials just created May 2015 places them in Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Newark, Essex Co & references a burial ledger for Margaret citing burial 4 Sep 1855, James buried 19 Apr 1854 & a plot for both of Sec D, Lot 119 but has no accompanying headstone photo which I'm going to request. (Memorial# 146712564 & Memorial# 146713224)

I doubt they're buried in 2 separate locations simultaneously.(Believe me, were it possible to break the laws of physics regarding being in 2 places at the same time, I'd have already done it when my kids were still in grade school :D )

Is there any indication that the grave marker in Brookside is a cenotaph? Or perhaps burial records that might reveal that they'd been moved to Brookside at some time later on after they'd died?

I'm nowhere near NJ or I'd dig into this in person rather than bothering you with it but I hope maybe you can discover what's going on. I've also contacted the other contributor, NotYourTime, w/similar questions so maybe he/she might have some info on their end that can clear this conflict up.

Clifford W. Russell
Hi Rich, you have a Find a Grave record for Clifford W. Russell and I'm curious if you are related to the family in some way. I believe that Clifford would be my 1st cousin once removed. His mother Helen Fitzgerald Russell and my grandmother Nora Fitzgerald Healy were sisters. Any connections/info is appreciated and thanks for posting on Find a Grave.

Sorry, Rich, I missed that detail. You've obviously been at this a lot longer than I have. Thanks for all your contributions for FindAGrave. Kay
