Hendons in Dekalb Co., GA
Wayne: I sent this message to you via Wikitree but am posting here to make sure you get it.

Wayne:

You and I traded emails about 15 years ago regarding the Hendons in Walker Co., GA and Dekalb Co., GA. My gr grandfather, Rev. Thomas Wm Powell, made mention of his Hendon cousins in a letter in about 1871. This would be the family of Elisha S. Hendon who was in Dekalb Co., GA before moving to Cane Creek, Walker Co., GA in the late 1830's. Elisha S. Hendon shows in 1830 Dekalb Co., GA along with Thomas Hendon, and Izrael Hendon.

I believe I am related to this line of your family because I have DNA connections for both Hendon and Standifer.

My gr grandfather, Rev. T.W. Powell is from the Dekalb Co., GA Powells and lived in Walker Co., GA before the Civil War and for a few years afterward, 1870-72. He referred to his cousins, James A. Hendon and Mary A. Hendon Powell, who were moving to Logan Co., AR. As well, he wrote a poem for Ann Judy Hendon, dau. of Lawson Hendon (son of Elisha S. Hendon) upon her death about 1870-71 and referred to her as his cousin, as well.

You've got Louisa Powell Hendon in your Wikitree as marrying in Covington Co., AL in 1825. It should be Covington, Newton Co., GA.

Louisa Powell was the daughter of Seymore Powell who came to Dekalb Co., GA from Newton Co., GA and Clarke Co., GA before that. He was from Chatham Co., NC originally.

If you look at the 1850 Dekalb Co., GA census, you will see Louisa Powell Hendon, age 43/GA and a few houses away is John A. Powell 39/GA. This is her brother.

Louisa and William F. Hendon named a son Thomas Winston Seymore Hendon. The Seymore name was after her father, Seymore Powell. The name Winston likely came from another brother, Elisha Powell, who named a son William Winston Powell. There were several other brothers, another of which was Campbell Powell. These families went to Randolph Co., AL.

Kind regards,

John Powell

Thank you so much, Wayne...for your condolences and for making the connection to the children. Can't explain why but it helps to have that done.

You are so generous to share your research. The news about Hattie Kimble helped me track Gilbert Hendon a little further in life. I hope what I sent you will help you for a change. Blessings go out to you, E. W.

Thank you so very much for linking Malinda's memorial to the memorial of her father Jackson Summerhill. The memorial was very recently established. Do you have any idea what happened to Malinda's last two children--Gilbert W. Hendon and Clara B. Hendon White?

Thomas O Hendon married Olivia "Ollie" Blow in Carroll County Mississippi. They had two sons,

1. Norris Hendon June 25 1897 Mississippi and died 1971 in Louisiana. He is buried in Mississippi Find A Grave # 131729889
2. Thomas Reed Hendon Sept. 19, 1899 MS and died in Kentucky. Find A Grave # 93829134

Ollie Blow Hendon died after 1900 and before 1903 at which time her husband remarried Malinda ?.'

1900 and 1910 Hendons were living in Carroll county miss. I have looked EVERYWHERE trying to find Ollie Blow Hendon's headstone...with no luck. No luck of husband either. Are they floating aroun in your tree somewhere??

Thanks Ann Skipper Boykin

Missouri Josephine Hendon Harris Ridley
Hi, back again after hitting a brick wall for Missouri. Saw on William David Hendon's memorial that Fannie Strickland was Missouri's mother. Any info on the Strickland line? Can't find much on Fannie. On another topic, is your book still available?
