My husband and I have been researching our families for over ten years. Most of this was done the old fashioned way by visiting archives, libraries, courthouses, elderly relatives etc. When we began there was nothing available on the internet, not even census records.

The way we did it was great fun. But now it is much easier. There is so much on the internet --definitely not everything-- but a lot. Since discovering Find-a-Grave, I was able to locate a couple of people in my own line that I had not previously managed to find. Now I want to help others by being involved in the project of Find-a-Grave.

I try to take good pictures but sometimes because of the conditions, etc. they do not come out as I would like. If anyone gets a better picture than I have put up, just let me know and I will remove mine.

Gravestone Photo Permission

I am happy to see that you photographed the gravestones of Alvin & Betty Alford in Holy Rosary Catholic Church Cemetery (Memorial# 38328372).

I would like to add these gravestone photos to the (non-profit) Alford American Family Association's collection of Louisiana Obituaries, where their obituaries are (or will be) included. You can see the current collection at

May I have your permission to include your gravestone photos? If so, the photo caption will say:

Photo from [cemetery name, city, county, state]—
Permission granted by the photographer, Louise [or your full name if you prefer]

And thanks so much for your gravestone photo work!

Best regards,
Pamela Alford Thompson (Find A Grave #47195155)

RE: Lonnie Landry
Hi Louise
Really confusing.. Obituary indicates he is in New Iberia. and all indicated that he is.
I have seen a memorial indicating "in honor of since there is a marker" in the Carencro one... and post the obituary which would explain and also link his wife that is linked on the Carencro one to the one in New Iberia..
It is all up to what you think.. i had to share for that was a distant family member that sent me the info..
Sincere thanks

The website shows date of birth as 1835. It should be 1935.

E R Hendrix

In reference to your question about the headstone for E.R. Hendrix.

I personally took the headstone photo at the Sweetlake/Grand Lake Cemetery, corner of Cox Road and Robinson Road in Sweetlake.

In my Cameron Parish research I've found several instances where deceased were listed as buried in Grand Lake Community Cemetery but were actually buried in Sweetlake.

I have updated the website to include Cora's Find A Grave information.

It is possible that they were moved further North after Hurricane Rita.

Hope this helps.
