Margaret Pain
I have concluded that the footstone you placed on Margaret Payne's entry is actually her mother's and should not be on #113156110. Her mother is 112707778. I will have to search the cemetery again to see if the daughter has a legible stone. Of course all the different ways of spelling Pain, Payn, Payne, and Paine do not help.
Thanks,
Dave

Fort Edward Cemetery
Hi Helen I was wondering if you had any luck in finding Fort Edward Cemetery. There is atleast one Revolutionary War Veteran (4G-grandfather) buried at the cemetery. If you found the cmetery could you please tell me the GPS or the exact location; I was hoping to take a trip problably in fall.
Thanks Alan

RE: Fort Edward Cemetery
Hi Helen,

It's been quite a few years since I was at the Fort Edward Center Cemetery. It's buried in the woods, so it's not easy to find. Here's what I remember.

Take Route 4 south from Fort Edward village. Although I said it's 4 miles south of Fort Edward, I'm wondering if that's right as I have a note another place that says 1.5 miles south of Ft. Edward. There's a street off to the right which leads to a few homes on the river. When you turn into the road it bends around to the left or comes to a "T"?. Go left. It's a dead end.

The cemetery was near the end of the road, across the street from the last house on the street - back in the woods and terribly overgrown - at least when I was there. It's not that far into the woods, but it wasn't visible from the road. I think there was an old landfill just south of the cemetery and the end of the road.

I had a little scrap of paper with a note that had been written by a great-aunt describing the location of the cemetery. She had noted it as near a local landmark (restaurant?). When I couldn't find it I went into a little diner at the south end of Fort Edward and talked to the older men sitting at the counter. They were aware of a cemetery back in there and helped me locate it.

I'm looking at Google Maps right now, and I'm thinking that the road to turn on from Rt. 4 is only 1.5 miles south of the village - Breton Way. I hope this is right - but it's the set up that looks like what I remember.

If you go and find this is correct, please let me know.

Good luck! -- Nancy

Thank you for obtaining a photo of my ancestor's grave. I also want to apologize for not responding earlier, but I was on the east coast and just returned home to see your email. Again thank you. Dennis
