THE RECORDING OF A CEMETERY
BY THELMA GREENE REAGAN
Today we walked where others walked
On a lonely, windswept hill;
Today we talked where other cried
For Loved Ones whose lives are stilled.
Today our hearts were touched
By graves of tiny babies;
Snatched from the arms of loving kin,
In the heartbreak of the ages.
Today we saw where the grandparents lay
In the last sleep of their time;
Lying under the trees and clouds -
Their beds kissed by the sun and wind.
Today we wondered about an unmarked spot;
Who lies beneath this hollowed ground?
Was it a babe, child, young or old?
No indication could be found.
Today we saw where Mom and Dad lay.
We had been here once before
On a day we'd all like to forget,
But will remember forever more.
Today we recorded for kith and kin
The graves of ancestors past;
To be preserved for generations hence,
A record we hope will last.
Cherish it, my friend; preserve it, my friend,
For stones sometimes crumble to dust
And generations of folks yet to come
Will be grateful for your trust.

Please remove your memorial # 14297317 as it is a duplicate to a memorial 101214026 posted back in 2012 for the same person. I have added your additional dates to the 1st memorial.
|keeper of the records||Mt Pleasant Cemetery|
Please remove your duplicate memorial# 142973427 (Ernest J. Cunningham). Yours was posted after the 1st and both have the correct information.
|keeper of the records||Lucy Chapman|
Please remove your memorial # 142973341 for Lucy Chapman in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery as it is a duplicate with memorial 100437045. (not mine) Just the secretary for this cemetery and trying to get the records correct.

Thank you for editing the Wrasse family memorials. Pamela was married to a distant cousin of mine. She and her two small sons were killed in an auto accident; a tragic loss.

Thank you for getting back to me, sorry my reply took so long.
I see that you contributed information about Joseph Charles Brennan who married Mary Cole, was wondering if you were related? Joseph's father was my 4th Great Grandfather

I just got a message saying that the parents of Barney were Michael and Henrietta. When I looked at Frank's site, it said that he was the father of Barney. Do you know which is correct?

Hello, I am not sure if you have it but I found the government issued military marker for Charles. I can upload it to his profile if you like and you can move it in the sort order. It's rather worn but definitely identifiable.
|Jack S.||RE: Keziah Foster|
I am sorry for the confusion. I referred to the memorial created by John Beckstein for Keziah Foster, wife of William, who died Aug. 17, 1857 - Find A Grave Memorial# 76876853, Union Center Cemetery.
You left a comment on this memorial: "I was not able to find Keziah or her husband William. There are several stones too worn to read and many unmarked graves in this cemetery."- Jodi Dominguez
The Hale Cemetery Collection places this Keziah Foster in Old Union Center Cemetery. "Foster, Keziah, wife of William, died Aug. 17, 1857, age 78 yrs"
This same record indicates there are 2 William Fosters buried in Old Union Center Cemetery:
Foster, William Esq., died Aug. 25, 1848, age 74 yrs.
Foster, William M., died Dec. 29, 1860, age 51 yrs.
I have photographed headstones in Old Union Center Cemetery as Find A Grave memorials incorrectly place them in Union Center Cemetery just to the south.
To confuse the matter a bit more, the oldest headstones, 1700's for example, are in Union Center, not Old Union Center. I was so confused I went twice to verify I had been in the right place. I have not gone back yet to look for Keziah's headstone. Jack
