Bio Photo I grew up in Maine, and now live in NH. The main goal of my cemetery visits is finding my ancestors and their collateral families, as well as seeking out the burial places of the soldiers from the 27th Maine Volunteers. I will also photograph all known Civil War veterans within the cemeteries I walk and, being the historian for NALF (National Association of Leavitt Families), I'm also looking for all Leavitt graves out there!

See you in the graveyards!

Steve many thanks for creating a memorial page for another of my ancestors. The headstone also includes his parents so I now have even more information about their death dates and final resting places as a result of your good work.

RE: Orrin B. Gerrish
Thanks Steve - yes I saw on the Newburyport Library Archives site that there is a publication that has a map of Highland. I will contact them tomorrow.

Samuel Carey Tuckerman
Hey Steve, thank you very much for taking the time to locate and photograph the stone for Samuel Carey Tuckerman! I appreciate that very much. I am working on a website project that is documenting the final resting place of every soldier who served with the 2nd Wisconsin Infantry during the Civil War. Each soldier will have their own page that will contain as much information and photographs that can be uncovered about each person. I was wondering if you might grant permission to use your photograph of his stone for this project on his page? It would really add quite a bit and it will definitely help any descendants or researchers who are trying to find out more information. I would be happy to add full credit for any pictures that you allow to use. If you do not wish to grant permission that is perfectly fine and I understand. If you do, do you perhaps have any other pictures of his stone that you could email to me by any chance?

Thank you very much for all of your time and help. I appreciate it very much,

Brett

Orrin B. Gerrish
Steve - thanks you so much for providing the photo of my ancestor Orrin Gerrish. I have another request in for my Great, Great Uncle Joseph Doring (Highland cemetery, Section F, lot 161). He also served in the Civil war.

Joseph was the brother of my Great Grandfather William Lawrence Doring who jumped off a whaling ship in Albany, Western Australia in 1844 and who lived the rest of his life in Perth, western Australia. He was a well known boat builder and gold prospector. I have been tracing his American family roots and you have just made a valuable contribution to that search.

I would like to visit these gravesites when my wife & I tour New England in October. How does one find the headstones - are there maps available for Highland and Oak Hill cemeteries?

Again, many thanks for all your good work.

Peter

Wilson Colburn
Steve,
Wish I had known you were seeking a photo on Wilson Colburn. I would have been on lookout for his marker. I did however find five members of the Colburn family which may have been related to your Wilson. As you can see from the photos, these five were all in a line. Wilson may have been nearby. Unknown.
