Bio and Links
Bio Photo I was born in South Bend, St. Joseph County, Indiana and I have been interested in my family history since the 1970s.

About 90 percent of the families I have listed are linked to either my materal or paternal side. The remaining links are related but I have not been able to find a connection to my grandparents.

My Hungarian maternal Galgoczy-Galgoczi heritage is traced to the 1650s, while my Hungarian paternal Farkas side can be traced to the 1850s. I have been published in newspapers for Hungary and Bulgaria in my successful efforts to locate, contact or expand on my quest for family members. Counting my greatgrandchildren, there are a total of fourteen generations accounted for on my maternal Galgoczi family!

I believe in sharing, for that is what ancestry is all about, the historical story-telling of families passed on through the generations. So if you see a family you'd like to link to, please notify me. And feel free to contact me if you find errors.

My ancestors have taught me a lot. Through the research and discoveries of their hardships, achievements, spiritual values, celebrations, personal losses and endurances to survive governmental upheavals, wars, land acquisitions, climatic disasters and disease epidemics I found that they not only left a trail of tears and joy, but that they all had a story to tell. By posting their "story-trail" on the internet, I hope to be part of their legacy of history, a history shaped by love.

RE: Utley descendency
Hi Nadine,

No direct relationship to them, though I'm always finding distant cousins so perhaps one day I'll be able to place them in my tree.

Take care,

I am not the owner of the duplicates. I just informed you of their burial location and that there were duplicates.

you can address the duplicate issue with the other person.

RE: Norbert Anthony Hertel
Hello Nadine,

As I mentioned in my response to your inquiry regarding my grandmother's family, please forgive this very late response to your inquiry about Norbert. I passed your question along to my father and this was his note to me:

"Norbert Hertel lived in Portland, Oregon with his wife Margaret and I believe 3 children, two girls and a boy. He worked for the Union Pacific Railroad- I think he was a dispatcher. He lost a leg early in life and wore an artificial leg. This never stopped him from driving standard transmission cars as automatics were rare in the late forties and early fifties. I believe the first automatic came out in the 1948 Oldsmobile. His favorite TV show was Gunsmoke. I don't remember when he died but I believe as he was the youngest of the Hertel clan he was the last of the Hertels to die."

As I mentioned in my other response, if I discover any other information while looking through the scrapbook my aunt recently lent to me, I will be in touch.

Warm regards,

RE: 69450217
Hello Nadine,

My apologies for not responding sooner - I talked to my dad and sent an email to one of my aunts to try and gather answers to your questions. (I didn't realize until I received notification on the 13th that you had also posted a question to me last year about Norbert - again, my apologies for not responding sooner.)

Unfortunately I don't have much information about my grandmother's family other than what I gleaned from a 1920's census record - my dad (Ray and Peggy's oldest son, Michael) and my aunt, Mary Beth, both said all they really remember is that grandma had one brother and six sisters. Here's the 1920 census information I found:

Father: Frank A. O'Neil, age 44, Born in Il, Mother and Father Irish
Mother: Elizabeth O'Neil, age 41, Born in Il, Mother Canadian/English, Father Irish
Siblings: Mary E., age 16, Alice A., age 15, Catherine D., age 13, James F., age 12, Elizabeth A., age 10, Frances, age 8, (Margaret, age 5), Helen M., age 2

The names correspond with stories I read in my grandmother's scrapbook as well as in a diary she kept for several years. (Other information I gleaned from my grandmother's high school scrapbook was that her family lived at 23 North Waller Ave in Chicago and she attended Siena High School, a girl's Catholic school.)

My aunt recently lent me another scrapbook filled with old family photos from my grandfather and grandfather, as well as other items, such as my grandfather's high school report cards. I haven't had time to look through this closely yet - I am planning to scan these photos so I will have copies. If I find any further information that may be of use to you I will pass it along.

Warm regards,

I'm working from this database:

Cedar Grove Transcriptions.
Combined Cedar Grove & St. Joseph Polish Cemetery Inscriptions
Compiled by Gene Szymarek assisted by John F. Szymarek
Transcribed by Jim Piechorowski June 2008

The only plot info they provide is "Section F" .
(Usually when I get the "same plot" info I don't put it in the plot, but I log it in under "note." Sometimes it can be handy; if a volunteer is looking for a person, this can be a clue.)
