C G Mathis
Hi Mr. Latham
I am Vernon Guymon, great-great grandson of C G Mathis. You have provided a picture of C G Mathis's headstone on "Find a Grave" website. I have assumed that "C G" stood for "Charles Gideon". My Great grandfather, a son of C G Mathis, was named William Gideon Mathis. (His death certificate confirms that Gideon is William's middle name.) The picture of the headstone for C G Mathis does not enlighten us with respect to what "C G" stands for. Other records I have found verify "C = Charles" but I can't prove "G = Gideon". Can you verify that "G = Gabriel"?
Either response, "yes...here is why...", or "no"...would be appreciated. Thanks for the picture.

William Crawford (Billie) Davis
This is my great great grandfather and I noticed a note you had left on his page listing his wife, my great great grandmother Mary Etta, and that he was the father of three boys. He was the father of three boys who you mentioned and five girls. My great grandmother Irene Burrell, Nora Carden, Nola Butler, Verla Batchelor, and Pauline Beckman. I wasn't sure if you were aware of your error or not. Hopefully you can link them all up.

Hanah Cartwright Copeland is my great great great grandmother. Her grave in the Bowling Cemetery is less than 20 miles from me. I hope you are able to find the McBee Cemetery since it is so close to you.

RE: McBee Cemetery - Columbus, Lowndes County, Mississippi
Hello,
Sorry, but I have not actually been to the McBee Cemetery. My first cousin, Melba Welch Wyatt, lives in Saucier, MS and found the cemetery back in the 1990s. The only marker they found was that of Aaron Evans. I will get in touch with her and ask her what she remembers about the trip. She gave me a copy of the picture of his marker and a listing from a book "Lowndes County, Mississippi Cemetery Records" by Rolfe B. Chase revised copy 1979. She had visited the Lowndes County Library in Columbus and they probably gave her directions. The book states: McBee Cemetery Location: 0.3 mile north of Route 50 on a gravel county road which runs north from Mississippi Route 50 at a point 0.4 mile east of McBee Baptist Church on the corner of Lehmberg Road and Route 50. The gravel road runs north and then swings west. The cemetery is on the south side of the gravel road."
She also found a Deed Record Book 31, page 130 Lowndes Co, MS where Margaret Copeland and others on 29 Jun 1858 where deeded land "containing one half an acre to include the space of ground known as the Bethel Church grave yard."
I hope this helps! Let me know if you find it.
Are you related to James W. Copeland?

Thomas Rafford Gregg #55095253
Hi, Mr. Latham,
I'm the great-granddaughter of Rayford Gregg. Thank you so much for creating the memorial. I'd like to request that his middle name be changed to "Rayford." Other research has shown that to be the spelling of the name, and I think that may be accurate, as he had a grandson named after him with the spelling of Rayford, also. Thank you so much!

Vera Browning DOB 1912
I am also searching for Vera Browning daughter of Charley and Ludie Browning, birth 1912. I believe she may have died somewhere around 1920. I believe she is the one my grandmother said died at the age of 6 or 8 years old.
