|Bio and Links|
Thank you so much for visiting my profile. While there are many wonderful things I could say about my history with Genealogy and much use and helpfulness of Find A Grave, I must also use this space to let everyone know I do have a great respect for these persons and memorials. Unfortunately, I have had some less-than-desirable exchanges with a couple of contributors. [One bad apple, etc... Some people will never be happy, etc… ] Now, I have to use this space to explain my position, and conviction related to the guidelines. Yes, Find-A-Grave does have guidelines; you should familiarize yourself with them, please. While I am not perfect, when entering memorials and using this site I do follow a strict discipline concerning the guidelines, especially the following...|
*** STATE YOUR SOURCE(S) WHEN SENDING ME CORRECTIONS, REQUESTS or ANY ADDITIONAL INFORMATION - YOUR SOURCE(S) WILL BE VERIFIED BEFORE INFORMATION IS ADDED.
No source, no correction. ***
In a perfect world, word of mouth would be proof enough, but this is far from a perfect world. I apologize if this is inconvenient, but I do want the information sourced and a way to show it is correct, otherwise, we will just stick with the information I already have, thank you!
TRANSFER GUIDELINES AND REQUESTS
Read the Transfer Guidelines THOROUGHLY!
[ I used to, as a courtesy, consider each transfer request on an individual basis but that consideration has ceased. Reason being, I had a really bad experience with another "contributor" who was very pushy and forceful about a clearly out-of-guidelines transfer (he wasn't even claiming any kind of family connection whatsoever)!
Therefore: No out-of-guidelines Transfer Requests will be honored (NO EXCEPTIONS). So don't waste both our time with out-of-guidelines Transfer Requests ... I am perfectly capable of adding/editing any information to the memorials I manage.
If you have a legitimate transfer request, I would be more than happy to fulfill that transfer. Periodically I go back to visit the memorial. Many times my work been removed after I transferred it. This will be reported.
DUPLICATE MEMORIALS / PHOTOGRAPHS
"Before adding a memorial, you should search to see if a record with that name has already been added."
If a memorial has incomplete or incorrect information, do not create a duplicate memorial! Use the Suggest A Correction link under the 'Edit' tab on the upper right of the memorial.
"You are able to delete duplicate copies of records that you have created."
If you create a duplicate & then ask for the one I made, I will request that you delete your duplicate first, then I will make record of what happened & transfer to you.
MY FIND A GRAVE PHILOSOPHIES
The individuals memorialized on Find A Grave meant something to somebody, and I do not take that lightly.
I was raised with good manners, and I require good manners in any/all Find A Grave correspondence sent to me! I apply the golden rule here: you get what you give!
On the other hand, I realize emotion does not come thru well in text messages and I try to realize someones request may sound demanding when they don't mean it that way. If I ever come across sounding demanding, please do understand that I NEVER mean it that way, and I apologize for coming across less than courteous. As a general rule, I always mean to be courteous and thankful.
(To ensure an accurate sequence of events, I do retain all emails. I do have a paper trail of everything that happens, especially if good manners were lacking! I will forward emails to the administrators if necessary. I do have some emails that are several years old.)
If you have sent an email or correction to me, and I see that you have ignored what I have posted here, I reserve the right to ignore that email and move on to others who have the courtesy of having read my post.
"Unless the legal name contains a hyphen ... punctuation should not be included in the memorial name.
If you have information to change the name please provide a verifiable source, which I can document in the Memorial… I will then list both.
SUGGEST A CORRECTION
Use the "EDIT" tab at the upper right of memorials.
Do not enter SAC information through "Leave A Public Message", on a "Photo Caption", or as a "Virtual Flower" on any of the memorials I manage. This is not my rule, its Find A Graves rule. Not to mention, it is tacky and makes the memorial ugly. Your name is posted next to that. It looks like graffiti or disrespecting a memorial; is that your intention?
Only *ONE* notice of correction to me is sufficient. I get to them as soon as I can, even if that means it takes longer then 30 days. Sending multiple requests for correction doesn't get it done faster. I work from the oldest to the newest. I apologize that I am behind on this... I will get to them as soon as possible, and/or email you back to tell you why it wasn't done or whatever the case may be.
I do receive too many SACs stating: "A Find A Grave visitor has made a suggestion to you regarding your Find A Grave memorial for .....
This suggestion was submitted by someone who was not logged in to Find A Grave, so we cannot provide a link to their contributor profile."
Do not send me any Messages/Suggestions unless you are logged into Find A Grave, otherwise your Messages/Suggestions will be disregarded and deleted! (NO EXCEPTIONS)
Please don't hesitate to chat with me or email me; I am a very friendly person, and love to chat. I would love to hear from you! Please just keep the rules in mind, and this information on my profile, that's why I put it here. :-)
