Bio Photo Please use the SAC function (edit button on memorial) to request transfers, and be sure to let me know specifically how you are related.

I volunteer at Oakland Cemetery in Atlanta, and am working on photo-documenting the whole cemetery. At this point, I prefer not to transfer memorials for this cemetery (other than mandatory transfers, of course) because my research is ongoing. In the meantime, please feel free to send me as much additional info as you wish via the edit button on the memorial.

NOTE: Obituaries are a wonderful source of information, but findagrave has rules about how they may be used. You can always glean facts from them for the bio. If they are out of copyright, or if you hold the copyright, you can transcribe them. Regardless of who has the copyright, you are not supposed to post them as a photograph - regardless of whether you scanned it, took a screen shot, or downloaded it from another website. Please feel free to send me obit text via the edit function, and I will use the info to add to the bio. Obits posted as photos will be removed, and it just ends up wasting your time.

John Holbrook
Hello Ms. Ferree: I am a descendant of John and Mary Holbrook. My mother's family is from Atlanta, Georgia. She is 91 years old and I am trying to find out family tree information for her. The Holbrook's were the grandmother and grandfather of C.A. Duuke on my grandmother's side. Her name was Minnie Duke. Many of our family members are buried in Oakland and Westview Cemetaries. I see where Mary and John Holbrook had 14 children. Can you give me any of their names or dates of birth? I would appreciate any help you can provide. All of my mother's side of the family have expired, and we have no other way of locating relatives. Thanks so much for your assistance!

Ida P. Kaphan
You have that Ida P. Kaphan, who is buried in the Oakland Cemetery in Atlanta, was the wife of Marcus Kaplan. That is not true. She was the wife of Manheim Kaphan, b. abt 1845 in Miloslaw, Posen, Prussia, and d. in 1919 in Bedford, VA. His grave can be found at Find-A-Grave.

RE: D Wadsworth
There is a Gate City Hospital book of records I found on line. A lady wrote all the deaths starting with 2/25/1862 and they are in cronological order. I would go by Oakland records for the row and grave #. This is what she has - 3/8/1862 - D. Wadsworth, 6th Miss. Regiment Co. - Unknown - Row 6, # 4. At the top on page 1, it has Confederate Soldiers buried at Oakland Cemetery. - Here is the name of it - Oakland Cemetery Book of Confederate Burials, February 1862 - July 5, 1864.
I wondered how many soldiers actually died at the hospital and stumbled on this record of them.

Harriet Turman Smith
I live in Chosewood Park which is a neighborhood created out of the land once owned by John Miller C. Reed. I live on Eric Street which was named after the son of Helen Reed Turman who was John Miller C. Reedís daughter.

Iíd like to know if you have any other information on the Reed family?

A mystery to me is the fact that the Harriet Turman Smith cemetary is located at the rear of 1400 Eric Street. This cemetary appears to be linked to the cemetary located behind the Antioch Baptist Church located at 420 McDonough Blvd.

Harriet Turman Smith was a daughter of Helen Reed Turman. I believe Harriet Turman Smiths remains were removed in the 1990ís or the early 2000ís. I have Fulton County Parcel Map of the Cemeteries located there.

Is there any way I can find out why the Harriet Turman Smith cemetery was put there and where she was moved.

RE: more re: Akers

I sent you a message yesterday. We solved the mystery. Akers first married Ann Eliz. McGinty and then Mrs. Ann E.Dozier(nee Pitts). The Ann E. name for both was coincidental.

You might want to include this on the posting.

Thanks for your help.
