Dean Franklin Burgess photos
Hi Suaan! I saw that you had placed flowers for Dean Franklin Burgess and thought I would send a message. I have been gifted some 150 family photographs that include Edward "Byron" Burgess and his wife, Eva Elfa Starr Burgess, along with Dean Franklin Burgess and Max Byron Burgess. Eva Elfa Starr Burgess is my great aunt, her parents, "Frank" Henry Starr and "Hattie" Louise Reeves Starr being my great grandparents.

I am day-by-day putting the photos in the public domain by uploading them to Ancestry.com in my "McOmber Family Tree", and eventually the photos will be uploaded to FamilySearch.org. As you probably know, Ancestry.com is a paid service, but FamilySearch.org is free. I hope to have them all uploaded to both Ancestry.com and FamilySearch.org within the next two weeks.

I am not sure how you are related, but you may enjoy the photos. I am about to upload today a photo of Edward Byron Burgess and Eva Elfa Starr Burgess in about 1950 with a boy that is likely their grandson. I do not know who the grandson is, but you might.

I am now retired and engaged full-time in family history as a labor of love, and little by little getting my family tree updated and posted. The Burgess line is not my direct ancestral line, but my grandfather, Irvie Fisher, lived in Milo, Iowa and was pals with Byron Burgess. Both Irvie and Byron married the Starr sisters in 1909 in Milo. My grandmother, Nellie Mae Starr Fisher, had lots of Burgess photographs from the early 1900's forward.

I hope to make contact with someone in the Burgess line interested in family history. Feel free to share my contact information.

Sincerely,
Niki Harrison McOmber (male)

RE: Sarah Tanner Smith Correction
Susan,

Dora Smith McCammon was the daughter of James H. Smith and SARAH TANNER SMITH. SARAH TANNER SMITH was the daughter of SAMUEL TANNER & SUSAN BURGESS. I have it correct in my records, but not in my head yet...

Thanks in advance for sending the Burgess family group sheet.

Terry

RE: Sarah Tanner Smith
Susan,

Thanks for your help on the Tanner and Burgess lines of the Smith and McCammon tree that I'm working on. I was recently contacted by a great grand-daughter of Dora Smith McCammon,(Dora was the daughter of James H. Smith and Susan Burgess Smith.)

In checking my notes, you were going to send a family group sheet of the Burgess side of this tree. Perhaps you already have, but I can't find it. Could you please send that as it will be a tremendous help!

Dora Dodson Hina is a grand-daughter of Dora Smith McCammon and just turned 95 last Friday. Her grand-daughter is the one wanting this information. I'll certainly give all credit to you for this as I didn't have the Burgess connection till you called it to my attention. :)

Sincerely,
Terry

Susan,
Thank you very much! I'm not related, but we have mutual cousins. I'll explain to your email.
Thanks again,
Terry

RE: Sarah Tanner Smith
Susan,

I've made the correction on my database. Thanks for setting me straight! :) Since I'm not directly related to the Tanner or Smith line (the Dodsons and my mother were related,) I only have what I've been able to pick up online. I'd love to have a group sheet on Edward Tanner's line.

I have a good bit on the Burgess and Search families, but only back to Balser M. Flesher, born 1760, in that family line. I lived in Muskingum County all of my life till 7 years ago, so I'm very interested in the history of the county.

My GGG Grandfather was Andrew Bumbaugh, who married Mary Ann Sweeney on August 03, 1819 in Muskingum County. Their daughter, Mary Ann Bumbaugh Tipton, born February 18, 1830, was my GG Grandmother.

Thanks again for your help,
Terry

Sarah Tanner Smith
Susan,

After studying this a little bit, I see what you're saying and we agree on who is buried where. I wasn't sure about the parents of Sarah Tanner Smith that's buried in Muskingum Co., Ohio, but then a Tanner or Flesher family member linked her to Edward and Sarah Brown Tanner, so I assumed that was correct. I'll look a lot closer at this now and I appreciate you letting me know.

Thanks,
Terry Glendening

RE: Sarah Tanner Smith
Susan,

Thanks for your input. I have a picture taken from the Smith & McCammom family bible, which is in the possession of Dora Dodson Hina, a third cousin to my mother. The birth and death dates in the bible exactly match those on the grave marker for Sarah J. Tanner Smith, who is buried in Finley Cemetery, Muskingum County, Ohio.

Dora's mother was Eva McCammon Dodson. Eva's mother was Dora Smith McCammom. Sarah J. Tanner Smith and James H. Smith are listed in the bible as Dora Smith's parents. James H. Smith's dates are: born April 10, 1824 in Ohio, died November 30, 1889 in Falls Township, Muskingum County, Ohio.

While I could be wrong, I don't have any other evidence of her being buried elsewhere. Could you please mail your sources to me at tglenden@wildblue.net. I can send a picture of the dates in the bible if requested.

Sincerely,
Terry Glendening

Sarah Tanner Smith
Sarah Tanner Smith was the daughter of Samuel Tanner and Susan Burgess, not Edward Tanner and Sarah Brown. Edward and Sarah's daughter Sarah Jane Tanner married Thornton Burgess and eventually moved to Iowa where she died.
