Retired public relations executive, inspector, newspaper columnist, fine arts artist, short story writer, "Ghost writer" and author of more than 35 books, including CHEESMAN FAMILY HERITAGE, The CHEESMAN DOSSIER, CHEESMAN DOSSIER II: RELATED FAMILIES, and The ILLUSTRATED GARDEN OF STONES Cemetery Book series.
It's difficult to read many old burialstones, depending on the style and technique of the stone engraver, or simply depending on age, wear and mother nature... an 8 might be taken for a 3, or a 5 might be mistaken for a 6, among other numeral combinations. Also bear in mind that some stone carvers have made mistakes because the written material for them to inscribe from was not always clear or legible.
If I am found to have misread a monument, let me know and I will promptly correct it as soon as I am able. Except for the cemeteries that I've worked on and have written about, my primary focus is on Cheeseman - Cheesman - Chessman and all variations of the surname, people related and associated to these families, and their their close friends.
I usually go on-line about once a month more or or less... Quite frankly, I don't trust or really care for computers because of so much misinformation, dirt, viruses and trechery that's commonly posted on them. Find-a-grave is one of the very few sites that I trust and go on.
I am certainly and genuinely always happy to hear from relatives and friends, and will try to respond to inquries as soon it is possible.
Your thoughts and messages are important to me, but I am slow at times, so please be patience.

Sorry. I missed the name "Carol" before "Adelaide". It makes sense that the "A" in her name would be her mother's name. Does "Harvey 2m=Carol Adelaide Duncan 1891-1931" mean that Carol was Harvey's 2nd wife? If this is my Harvey, he had 2 sons, Don & Ken. I just noticed in my notes I made decades ago that Don & Ken were his sons from a different wife, and that he & Carol had no kids together. Do you know when Harvey & Carol were married? Or info about his other (first?) wife? Was he divorced or widowed from his first wife? You don't have him linked to any family members. Where do you fit in? I'm a Duncan. If you need any Duncan info, I know a lot about the family. By the way, Carol #66756060 was born in 1891, but died in 1975. Her graveplate posted on her memorial is very clear, and I'm sure she was alive when I was growing up, although I remember Harvey better, probably because of the movies he showed us of his safaris and travels. If you knew Harvey, you are most likely familiar with that. Do you remember a family reunion in L.A. or Glendale around 1960. I met some 5th cousins there, and now, decades later, I'm trying to find out who came to California for it. Are you from California? Thanks. | | | Candy Wood

Hi, again. Yes, I do mean Harvey Rollins Cheesman. Was he the same Harvey Cheesman who was married to Carol Duncan, and father of Don & Ken? If so, how are you related to him? Thanks. By the way, I don't know what your reference to Adelaide Duncan meant. If he's my "Cousin Harvey" I knew as a child, Adelaide would be his mother-in-law, although she died when Carol was a child. | | | Melissa Mishler Abegg

Thank you, David, for your reply. I will look forward to the expansion of your book on related families. I hope to be able to make a trip back to the library soon to further study your Dossiers. I recently requested photos of Henrietta Cheesman White's and Reuben White's headstones and one Gary Moore was kind enough to respond to my request. I was pleased by his report, as you may also be, that there has been a great cleanup and repair effort in Hyde Park Cemetery. Henrietta's headstone is broken but readable. Gary's photos have been added to your memorials for Reuben and Henrietta.

| Reuben White and Henrietta Cheeseman (1797-1852)
David,
Thank you so much for your books on the Cheesemans. Henrietta's parentage was a dead end for me until I found your work. So was her husband Reuben White's parentage; you are the only source I have seen for his father's name, William White. If I may, where did you find that name, and what is your source for Reuben's having been born in South Carolina? Census records list both North and South Carolina as his birthplace. Do you have any other information on William White? Reuben and Henrietta are my 4th-great-grandparents. Thank you again for your work!

| Samuel Nayler Wilson
Hello!
My name is Mandy Mahurin. I am currently doing some family research in the Knox County, Indiana area for some Wilson relatives of mine. On a long shot, I set out to locate Samuel N. Wilson's gravesite on the hopes that other Wilson's were buried there. I noticed on this site that he is listed as buried in the Vincennes City Cemetery, however when I went to the cemetery they redirected me to the Iona Cemetery (small town outside of Vincennes). Sure enough I located his stone. Unfortunately, I was greeted with very sad news. His stone has recently been hit by a fallen tree and has broken the stone in several places. am not sure if this was a recent event, however I do plan on contacting the local veterans administration to see if he qualifies for a replacement stone, if I get no where with that, I will contact local historians. It would appear that possible other Wilson's are buried there however the stones have been gone for a very long time. It is a very small cemetery in the woods right off of Hwy 241 in the small town of Iona, Indiana. I believe at one time this cemetery was called Turbett Cemetery. I am currently looking for a father to my great-great-great-grandfather David Wilson born 1805 died 1852, he is curried at Herman Church Cemetery. Have you ran across this name in any of your research? I seem to be running out of leads and wish that I could locate another generation. Any help that you could lend would be greatly appreciated.
