|It is sad and unfortunate that the find a grave site now has police that go around searching for minor rule offenses and harass its members with deletion demands.|
These find a grave police send only their requests through the the edit tab and have disabled and removed there contact information so as not to be bothered by the person they are harassing. I imagine hundreds of other members are also being harassed.
Some of these people have taken it upon them selves to hoard up unclaimed memorials, or even post a new one one for recently departed of those very same people they are harassing, effectively stealing control of these memorials before the true family member can get around to it. This type of behavior has turned this site into a real life game of 'Who Controls The Memorial's?' I didnt join this site to play games.
I thought the site was created for family's and family genealogists but apparently not. It seems it was created by busy bodies with nothing to do, but go around and pick apart every little possible rule transgression on a given memorial.
Yes we must have rules but many of the find a grave rules were ill-conceived from the beginning and outdated now. I could write a book on the subject but I dont have time for that.
When I joined this site, My initial thoughts thoughts were there may be too many cooks in the kitchen here and as time has progressed, my original hunch turned out to be correct.
In the past I promoted this site to others as a great researching tool but if some family members are memorial are deleted, whats the point?
I no longer will promote this site but I will remain active with my direct relatives and will still honor legitimate corrections & transfer requests.
I'm currently working on a personal website, untouchable by find a grave police, in order to share the family genealogy with family members.
As I recently mentioned to a friend, there are many great people involved on the find-a-grave site but a few bad apples are ruining it for the rest of us. Life is just too short!

I've had an account here for a little over a year and now that I'm in between semesters at college, working on second masters degree, I have decided to fill my time with researching my family's genealogy. Most of the contributors I've spoken to on here have been amazingly wonderful. Except for one that has a relative of mine. I put in an edit request to join him with his brothers and sisters and didn't hear anything back on it, so I asked the contributor to transfer him to me and I would love to do it. She flat told me no because I hadn't contributed enough to the site. What? For several days this continued until I told her I would simply make another memorial. She told me that she would keep watch of me everyday to make sure that I don't. Cyber Bullying and stalking. Then she denied my request to update my relative she has. I've emailed and forwarded all the messages to find a grave and no response.
I am truly finding this sad. Very very sad. I had hoped that by finding out where my family had been that it would be a fun experience and for the most part, it has. I guess, like you, I will never understand the idiocracy of some people.

I understand your situation, Wayne. I use Ancestry.com and run into a similar situation when searching for my 2nd cousins on my mother's side of the family. Apparently my mother's mom (my grandma) never got along with one of her sister's (my great aunt who I've never met and is passed away now). When I went to contact my great aunt's children they denied having zero relation to me. Keep in mind that I have pictures, etc. Some people are hard-headed and ignorant. Sorry you had that experience. Ancestry is great, do you use it?

I've never heard of these F-A-G police. I certainly haven't run into them while fulfilling grave photo requests. I hope I don't run into any, although I am not aware of any law(s) that prohibits a snapshot being taken of one's publicly displayed grave. I'd be interested to hear more about these 'police'.

I updated Viola's memorial with the info you gave me.

I transfered the memorial to you .. I never knew Mr Roach and I always feel that friends/loved ones should care for the memorials of those that cared for them. Please take care . Angela

Thank you also for understanding. I don't know what this person wrote to you when they asked you to delete your Memorial. But if it was anything like the demands I received, he/she should be reported to management. If you want to forward her message to you to me, I'd love to see it. I should think that when "requesting" a deletion one would give the parties a few days to correspond and sort out any problems. Did you notice on her home page all her virtual cemeteries are Memorials she/he is trying to get deleted? Really way over the edge! If you wish to communicate further, my email is on my home page. Just let me know what you need.
Best Wishes, Lettie

Just in case you hear from LN again, I want you to know I am holding the older number of Catherine just in case you prefer the older number. Some transfers like the older number and don't mind moving the info. Others prefer to not re-do all of their work and keep the new number. I would try to explain this to LN but she/he disabled their messages. Some people on here are so rigid about suggested rules(They think they are laws, I guess) that it takes the fun out of being a member.
Your new friend, Lettie
Wayne, I have deleted my Catherine Patterson Bowley Fairgrieve and transferred my other Fairgrieve to you. I am related however very remotely through marriage. I am also distantly related to the Hersey lines buried in Belvidere. If you are close and want to take photos, let me know. I will put in requests. It seems most of the Belvidere Cemetery is listed but very few photos are posted for the Cemetery. It never clicked that the Catherine Patterson who married Bowley was the same Catherine Patterson that married Fairgrieve. So now, Thanks to you, I can straighten out another little mystery in my family files. Best Wishes, Lettie
