Bio and Links
Bio Photo Although relatively new to Find a Grave, I've been working on my family's ancestry for a few decades now; tying up loose odds and ends, and every now and then finding a most interesting connection. Of course, the fun doubled when I got married, and now I get to curate my wife's side of the family too!

I'm a half-Northern, half-Southern living gal in the US, so take photos wherever I find myself working that week. Please let me know if I've thrown up a duplicate record, or got some details incorrect - mistakes happen to the best of us, and they happen to me too :) The most important thing is to get the data correct, so no offense will be taken.

RE: Photo of John George Downs
Hi Lisa,

Re the Downes family...

Dorothy D Robinson I haven't managed to track down. I know she's part of the family because my mother-in-law had her in her notes.

The Cheathams: Hardy Cheatham's wife was Mary A Downes, 2nd daughter of John George and Margaret Downes.

John D Westmark married Agnes Joseph(ine) Downes the youngest child of John George and Margaret Downes. Mary John Westmark Troy is their daughter. She married Alfred Shipman "Ship" Troy.

Claiborne Galliher is Ella's husband. Ella lived with her daughter Marjorie Galliher Jones in Tulsa in her later years and is buried in their plot in Calvary Cemetery in Tulsa.

The infant son is new to me. John George and Margaret Downes had a son, George Edward Downes, but the only marriage I have for him doesn't is for an Annie G McBride. I believe that John George and Margaret had 2 other children who either passed away in Ireland or en route to Montgomery. Do the cemetery records say anything else about him?

Yes, I see someone duplicated my 2005 memorial in 2009. I hope you sent the a correction, if not I will.

RE: Photo of John George Downs
Let me get back to you. I haven't got Dorothy lined up yet but remember seeing her as a niece on a census.

If you have access to Ancestry Member Trees, here is a link to John George Downes on my public tree. If you haven't access give me a few days and I'll copy it to RootsWeb (been meaning to do it anyway).
