Hello!
I'm trying to figure out if we are related, which I think we could be. Sarah Evans was my great great great grandma, she was married to Andrew Biggs.

My wife & I walked the Fairview Cem. yesterday and saw a lot of "Wilcoxson" grave stone but didn't find Ada's or Arthur's, grave stone. Please leave the request active as I go to a chiropractor in Osborne, and will walk the cem. again in approx. 30 days. Perhaps it will be a little cooler as it was nearly 100 degrees, yesterday. RE: KOONS
Hi Laura, My name is Sue Steenberg-McDeid and I just came back from walking the Keokuk Natl Cemetary where I found your Wm Koons...I think. Didn't have my camera with me but will photograph. I'm not good at uploading from the cam but will learn soon. The info on the stone reads as follows: Wm M Koons
Co D
2 MO Cav
Died Jan 8, 1889

It is in Sec B, Site 649.

Is this yours, not sure as you state 1869 as d of d.

Thanks, Sue

I tried. He was the only one on the lot that did not have a tombstone. You're welcome. Barb

Koons cemetery photo requests
Laura,

I live in Jefferson county, Iowa and I have received your photo requests for the "burials" in Koons cemetery here.

Unfortunately when Warren Smith "created" that cemetery listing on FindAGrave he neglected to note that the entire cemetery has long since been plowed over by a rural farmer and nothing is left of it. He could have, but chose not to, noted that in the cemetery description when he 'created' the listing recently.

Below is the text from our IaGenWeb/Jefferson county cemetery page listing for Koons cemetery, from which Warren got his burial information.

I'm sorry that you used up so many of your alloted photo requests per week for the sake of this cemetery, but there is literally nothing left of it to fill any photo requests with. At this point there isn't any way to even get a 'cemetery view' photo as the cemetery was never blocked out before it was plowed over.

Unfortunately those burials will remain unmarked. The headstones were read in 1970 but then they were part of the plowing over process, so they are lost as well.

Notes from IAGW Jefferson county "Koons" cemetery listing:

" This cemetery had burials from 1839 to 1879. Prior to 1975 there were seven stones standing, and their data was copied by a nearby farmer. This group of burials is shown in the first table. At this time there are no stones standing, and the cemetery unfortunately has been plowed over.

After considerable research by Verda Baird in 1986, she was able to put together a few family sheets on the many descendants of John KOONS. Those listed in the second table are buried in this cemetery but no stones were found by the farmer who copied the original seven markers."

RE: Ethan Miller
Your welcome. I was happy to go for the walk. I noticed that so many graves are new and not all pictures are posted from that cemetery. I live near by and enjoyed my digital camera although day 1 the camera died soon after getting there.

Just a note to let you know. I haven't found Rose's marker yet but I did find a large plot with 12 members of the family present in it. I added memorials for them and posted the pictures. I also went up on Ancestry and matched the familial relationships through census records.
