I was born and raised in Tehama Co., in Northern California. I graduated from Red Bluff High School, Shasta College, and Chico State College. I retired from UC Davis in 2004 after almost 40 years service. I currently live in Carmichael, California with my beautiful wife of 7 years who humors and supports me in my genealogical passion.

My Zumalt family came to California from Missouri via Idaho in the 1920's. My mother's paternal Mohr family settled in the Cottonwood area in the 1880's, her maternal family (Stavig/Emerson/Gould) came from South Dakota in 1900 to settle in the Sharon Fruit Colony at Jelly's Ferry, Tehama Co.

My wife's paternal family (Lovelace/LeFever) came to the Sacramento/Folsom area from Missouri and all points East. Her maternal family names are Morrill, Johnston, and DeForest. The Johnstons and DeForests were among the earliest settlers in Lassen Co., California. Clinton DeForest, my wife's great great grandfather was a member of the John C. Fremont expeditions that explored the Western United States in the early 1840's.

I am currently working on California Zumalt/Zumwalts in Find A Grave. My theory is that almost all can be traced back to Andrew Zumwalt who immigrated to the US in 1737. Thus far I have been quite successful in proving my point. Any help with this project would be greatly appreciated.

I have been finding many of the photos that I have submitted to Find A Grave on various family trees on Ancestry.Com. I am honored to share these photos, but I would request that you add proper credit for the photos.

Juliana's memorial is yours. I wish I could take a picture for you, but alas, there's no plot info in the City Cemetery's records. At least she is listed in their records. Lin

Michael, you gave me some information as to her birth/death dates. Since she is a Zumalt, would you like me to transfer her to you? Lin McNamara

Thanks Michael
What a wonderful thing you are doing, building virtual cemeteries where fellow soldiers may rest together. Thank you for including my uncle Paul. What is your interest in the 504? Did you have a relative or relatives in it?

Mary (Ogle) Zumwalt
Thank you for the Zumwalt contribution. My relations go back to Mary Ogle Zumwalt. We are first cousins, 7 times removed. Mary's grandfather, Major Joseph Ogle is the grandfather of the late Congressman Alexander Ogle of Pennsylvania from where my line comes. My mother was Pamela Ogle Henry and I was the first generation Ogle born in California. Ironically "Andrew the Immigrant" Zumwalt was Swiss and I married a Swiss and lived in Switzerland for 9 years. This was a treasured find.

Hi Mike
Thank you very much for the Adams updates. It's always nice to get the families connected and I appreciate your help.

I hope you make it to Idaho sometime to visit the cemetery. Lots of history there.

Thank you,

You offered some changes to her memorial regarding family. How are you sure that these are correct?
Respectfully yours,
