Have access to cemeteries in the Des Moines Metro area and Polk County. Can also offer to go to parts of these counties bordering Polk County: Warren and Dallas.

In addition, I make trips at least once a year to the following Iowa cemeteries: Bangor Friends Cemetery in Bangor. Poldand Township Cemetery in Marathon/Poland Township, and Lone Tree Cemetery in Sioux Rapids, Iowa. I usually go during the Memorial Day Weekend. There is also a Catholic Cemetery in Sioux Rapids. If you can give me enough heads up time, I will also stop there to take photos.

RE: Justus & Catherine Lockwood Bristol
You are welcome to use any and all of my photos. I do this a way to preserve what little is left of some of these stones. The top of the stone of Justus is broken off and laying on the ground next to the rest of the stone. I can go back to try to get better photos if you would like me to. Also, if you need any other photos from this cemetery, I have most of them. Just let me know what you need.

Yes, I'm the one who requested photos of the Alton family members. I was told that they did
not have headstones. What additional information do you have?

You're very welcome :) I'm glad I could help! Every letter and date helps your tree along, that's for sure!

Anna is my 3rd great grandmother. Son Nathan Thomas and granddaughter, Lydia M. Thomas Henshaw. Somewhere along the way one of her descendants gave Willow Grove and I decided she needed to be recognized.

Sorry it has taken me so long to get back to you. I have been away for a while. But wanted to thank you for taking the time to go to the cemetery and take these photo's for me.

Mayport Cemetery is still there, as is the town of Mayport. It's just outside the confines of Mayport Naval Station.

RE: W D Stuart
Bonnie,

First, I want to thank you for taking on this project. All of those in that cemetery are my family. I would probably do the same thing. My family originally (1800's) migrated from Missouri to southern Iowa and then several went into the Des Moines area - the Stuarts but they originated in Missouri.

I am a native of Missouri, grew up in Taylor County, Iowa and now live in Wisconsin. I just finished a genealogy trip to Taylor County - Iowa and Nodaway & Worth County - Missouri where my sister and I took over 1500 photos and are now in the process of entering them onto find a grave website in addition to our Ancestry family tree. We too feel a calling to help record this information for future generations so they can find where their relatives lived and are buried. It is taking us hours to enter these onto find a grave but it is a passion so the time doesn't matter.

I commend you for taking on this project. There is a gentleman in Visalia, California who has taken on recording the 11,000 tombstones in the Visalia Public Cemetery where some of my family lies. My projects seems like peanuts compared to his!

We do not have Bierma relatives (that we know of) in Des Moines but we do have an uncle, Jack Watson, who lives there and was very active with Drake University in many ways. He is now slowing down (since reaching age 90) but we hear from him regularly.

Thanks for doing this project - I will copy onto my Ancestry tree any entries that you put on when you photograph these tombstones in this cemetery. Some of the Stuarts are more distant relatives but are still shirt-tail so they are still family.
