Bio and Links
Bio Photo My name is Roy R Adkins and Hallie [Lowe] Adkins was my mother.I started this because so many family members were not being remembered from the past. Somtimes were to busy living our own lifes when we should have been listening with better ears. So this is for the people who have forgotten or to old to remember.
My father died 3 months before I found him. I remember one weekend when I was about 8 years old, that we were cleaning the house and my mother had run across this box. I had seen it before but never really paid much attention to it. Mom said it belonged to her real mother Sylvia and it was full of family pictures that I hadn't ever seen. It would come to be known as the Elswick box. It was old and dusty and better than a hundred years old I thought as she opened it. When she opened the old box it smelled musty and damp inside and I was in awe. Who is that lady? Who is that man? Where was that picture taken, as she allowed me to be inquisitive. When she started explaining whom these people where and how they fit into all of our lives. I listened in amazement as she proceeded. She started telling us the story's about her father and his father and his father. Her real mother and where they came from how her parents met. Why her and her brothers had to be put in an orphanage in this place called Homesville Ohio. And then she had held four pictures in her hand. She then laid them in front of us and said," these are the only pictures I have of your father!" My father I asked? The reply was yes. His name was Millard Musco Adkins and his father was Dewey Woodrow Adkins. I now had more questions? She did her best to answer all of them in a very pleasant and understanding way. How was I ever going to remember all of this I thought to my self.

Hallie Lowe Ralston
Dear Roy
I was very interested in your history. My husband is the grandson of Franklin LeRoy Ralston. Would you have some time to talk about Hallie Lowe? You could reach me at susanralston@yahoo.com or 916-257-2580. I have been researching genealogy for over 35 years. Thank you for any time you could give me. Great pictures by the way - who are they?

Hawkins Family
I am just starting my research of my ancestry. My great grandmother was Sarah Hawkins. I know that I am on the right track because as soon as I saw the hill at Asbury Cemetery I remembered as a child climbing that hill. My father use to paint an large urn every other yr or so. All apparently there was no headstone. I know that some of my ancestors are located in Mt Moirah as well. I would love to email anyone possibly related to me or could give me any information.

Blackburn Barret "Bret" Adkins
#28251543

Question On his death cert. his father is listed as Luke Adkins
In the Civil War Veteran record
" Blackburn Barrett Adkins was the son of Hamilton Adkins and Jane Bragg Lovejoy. He was a BROTHER to Luke G Adkins. He Married Judith Lovejoy and had 11 children."

My 4X GGrandfather was Hamilton. I'm just trying to figure this out.

Info I have is from Hamilton's 2x GGson Norris Cole family records.

I found on a 1850 census Boone county W.V. Adkins, Blackburn B is listed age 15.
Thank you for any help you may give me.

Carvil Hawkins & Achy Shinn
Hi Roy. I've had some of the same questions as you regarding Mary Mundle, though I knew she wasn't Achy Shinn's mother. Achy Shinn was Achsah Shinn, the oldest daughter of Joab Shinn and his wife Nancy Shire English. Achsah was named after Nancy's mother, Achsah Robbins. I am descended from one of Achy's younger sisters, Rachel Shinn. According to Mary Mundle's tombstone, she was the mother of Carvil & Hezekiah Hawkins. It appears that she was Carvil's biological mother, and that she remarried after the death of his father. Her sons, Carvil and Hezekiah, may/or may not have lived with Richard Hawkins and his wife Sarah. Richard may have been their uncle. That would explain both the orphan story, and why Richard and Sarah named a younger son Carvil too. I suspect that the two Carvils were cousins, not brothers. I am continuing to research this and will be happy to update you on what I find.
