"Your tombstone stands among the rest;
neglected and alone
The name and date are chiseled out
on polished, marbled stone
It reaches out to all who care
It is too late to mourn
You did not know that I'd exist
You died and I was born.
Yet each of us are cells of you
in flesh, in blood, in bone.
Our blood contracts and beats a pulse
entirely not our own.
Dear Ancestor, the place you filled
one hundred years ago
Spreads out among the ones you left
who would have loved you so.
I wonder if you lived and loved,
I wonder if you knew
That someday I would find this spot,
and come to visit you."

Thanks to everyone for this site, my family plot is at this Cemetery most Recent a sister Rebecca Carter Meece. I have been fighting with the trustee's this summer over the lack of respect the lawn mower they employ has for our love ones. when he mows ,he throws grass over the monuments to the point you can not read the names and leaves it that way. I have to go out and sweep & wash it off every 2 weeks. I'm thankful that I can do this, a lot of folks can't. Help needed...

Hi Eileen -
The 'V' on the headstone is the first letter of her maiden name (Ventress). You'll often find women using the first letter of their maiden name as their middle initial in records and on gravestones. Juda's middle initial is listed as 'M' on the 1880 and 1900 censuses. The Martin came from the research of descendants.
