We first found Find-A-Grave while doing genealogy research. This is still our main focus, as we are far from done following our family lines! Many of Julie's lines are Dutch, as you might guess from our picture. She also has roots in Ireland and England. Tom's line is almost exclusively Polish, though the same areas were alternately conquered by Germany, Russia, etc., and so the nationality question is complicated!
We have also come to appreciate the artistry and history of cemeteries, and love to come upon markers that show the personalities of the people interred. Graves are not just names and dates...they are a bridge between the past and the present, and a place for loved ones to express their feelings and memories.
We are happy to take photos for others if we can. Our memorials are all family for the most part. Please contact us if you are family too, so we can share information!
RE: Lavina Bryant in Sherman City Hi, Sorry I haven't been on here in 2 years. Lavina is not related I would be glad to turn her memorial over to you, but Casper is my gg grandfather and I want to keep his. I think to transfer Lavina you have to click a link on her page to request the transfer, I will check and see.
RE: Henry Oosterhout it may never be determined where he is actually buried. -- one memorial could mention the other possible grave site. There are a lot of Oosterhout and various other spellings of the name in the Ulster county region and I was just trying to make some connections - I am not related to the family.
RE: Resurrection Cemetery Hi Julie. What suburb do you reside in? I live in Cherry Valley (adjacent to Rockford), but used to live in Schaumburg. My parents live a few minutes from Resurrection, so I always visit the cemetery when I'm in the Chicago area. I live about 85 miles from that cemetery, but people from both sides of my family are buried all over, about 50+; even in the indoor and outdoor mausoleums. The older part of the cemetery (i.e. sections B, C, etc.) have beautiful stones with old pictures on them; always nice to look at and document those.
I transferred the memorial for Audrey to you. I was happy to do so. I frequently add many memorials from Resurrection Cemetery to F-A-G in hopes that family, like you, locate them and add valuable info.
RE: Osterhoudt in Ulster Co Yes, both my grandparents on my mother's side of the family were descended from Osterhouts. See my family tree on RootsWeb, Northern Irwin Meets Southern Mills--lots of Osterhouts (and Osterhoudts). Here's a link to one of my Osterhout ancestors, a Rev. War soldier.
