Thanks to all the people that have transferred memorials of my family members to me. I want to wish everyone a very healthy and prosperous 2015|
I find it such an honor to be able to join people that have been separated for so long, especially children that died at birth or passed at a very young age. Even if just virtually it always gives me a special feeling so that others might not have to dig around to find they even existed in the first place.
For what it is worth, I want to thank all the selfless members who do this to honor and respect those who have passed. To sincerely thank them for the countless hours that they have contributed walking the cemeteries photographing or creating & maintaining memorials.
However, I must add, I find it sad and pathetic that some of you have very childish reasons for holding on to memorials that are not even close to you.
SHAME ON YOU!
This really angers me, especially since often the memorials were not even created by you to begin with. You are in some sort of sick power control #'s contest. Why in the world would someone not transfer someone closer related if the are not in your family to begin with whether 4 or 12 generations?
On top of this, and though many of you have tens of thousands of memorials, and often do not and could not manage a tenth of what you have, you dare to lecture others about Find A Grave rules. Or you claim some silly reasons that you do not relinquish control so you can live with yourself. I find it insulting that you tell people in your profile is that they could not possibly do their ancestors justice and that it is too much work having too many memorials, and yet you have 10,20 100,000+ memorials?
How you people can claim this is beyond me, especially when many of you can't keep up with your memorials, often having some pathetic excuse & often aggressive actions to someone that dares to ask why a change is not made. I feel I have a greater right to have a say on family then a complete stranger that only cares about another 10,000 graves on their profile.
Again shame on those people, and sadly too many of them here. You can tell who these are, people with high #'s and often no response or no way to contact them and always lecturing when they do respond, get a life! What in the world is wrong with you people? Are you so childish and power hungry that you only can exercise your power games here over the dead?
I thought I might borrow what Jeff Gonyea on his Find a Grave profile:
"We don't "own" the memorials we manage - they are not ours. We may create them, we may update them, we may transfer them to others - we are but stewards. They are Find A Grave memorials of human beings, departed. They are not "friends" on a social media network website to be collected like baseball trading cards. And there's no prize for the one who dies with the most.
The reward (for me) comes from maintaining the most accurate and dignified memorials I can. What we record becomes history, and a record in someone else's family tree. We have a responsibility to do a good job of it. It's a privilege and honor."
Well put Jeff and I just wish more of the people could soak these words in...

After reviewing your email of last June, and your Marshalls online and my own records, I do not believe my Martha Marshall is related as you suggest. I have photos of her and her siblings who are clearly Ellen, Richard, and Mary. There are no Benjamins, Earls, or Roberts.

Thank you for bringing the duplicate memorial to my attention. It was unintentionally done. I just missed it somehow when adding photos. The photo has been moved and the duplicate deleted.

I guess you could call me Ignorant II because when I posted the 4 memorials I did so ONLY to share with anyone who needed that information. The use of Robison, Robenson, Roberson I am led to believe is due to early lack of spelling and writing. I accept that premise. As for the genealogy information you shared, I am aware, accept and congratulate you on the accuracy of your information. Now for why I have not added genealogical information. First, I do not view the site as a genealogy site only a source. AND I have noted on some memorials misleading information. That is sad.
As for Jenial and Mary Robison memorial, I recorded this to make it available to the many family members who were searching for the final resting place of my Great Grandfather and Great Grandmother.

I am new to this site and am slightly confused by your main post. What does it mean to own or manage a gravesite? I just plan on taking photos for people who live too far away to do it themselves. Is there something I am not getting about this website?

I clicked on this request and have full intention of searching and photographing it for you. My "problem" at the moment is it is upstate New York and there is still snow on the ground. I did not realize the marker is flush with the ground so it may be difficult for me to find for another 4-6 weeks. I hope you can wait that long.

Got your edits for I.J. Massengill, and have updated his page. Does he happen to be an ancestor of yours? He was my great-great-grandfather; I always look forward to connecting to distant cousins.

Joseph, I was sending an edit for M J Plunk in Plunk Cemetery to add the name of Martha Jane Hubanks Plunk, wife of S P Plunk who I believe is Simon Peter Plunk 1845. But the edits showed that you had already submitted a name. May I ask if your edit name is for Martha Jane Hubanks Plunk?
I had sent in a couple of edits for children so thought I'd better check with you before adding more - in case you did not think this was Martha Jane. If not, may I ask who you think it is? ... I do wish tombstones had names instead of initials. HA
