I recently moved to north central Iowa, but my roots are in DeKalb Co., IN. I've been interested in genealogy since high school, and after taking years off, I have been seriously back into tracing my kin for the last ten years. I enjoy cemeteries, but I'm just now getting to where I know the cemeteries in this area.
Transfer & thank you Hello again Sharon, Thank you so much for your recent transfer of; Mary Alice Rush Nuckolls # 66821225 to my care. I have "reunited" her with her husband and five of her eight children, I hope you are pleased with what I have been able to add thus far. As I receive more information I will be adding it to OUR shared memorial. With appreciation, Marcia # 47059326
RE: Elson's in Dekalb Co IN Thanks for the offer. My relatives are located in Ottumwa and Marshalltown. Both of my parents are from Iowa. I will delete my memorials. You are not the only one that did not know that the Mausoleum, Woodlawn and Roselawn are all separate cemeteries. Much of the misinformation comes from the transcription books at the Willennar Annex. People who recorded the cemeteries in the 1980's were in error.
RE: Elson's in Dekalb Co IN I thought they might be since you knew to take a photo of their crypts at the mausoleum. I asked because the memorials that you created for them in 2010 are actually placed in the incorrect location. The mausoleum is not a part of Woodlawn Cemetery. It is a separate entity and has been since land was purchased in 1916 from the Abel farm for the building. I have lived in Dekalb Co for 35 years and did not know this until I became a photo volunteer for F.A.G. The Auburn Mausoleum, Roselawn and Woodlawn are all separate entities. Southlawn Cemetery, as locals appear to call it, is actually a part of Woodlawn. It is an addition to the original plat. There is now a cemetery site on F.A.G.for the Auburn Mausoleum. I spent a great deal of time tracking down memorials placed in other locations, but missed the Elson's. Therefore, I created memorials and posted photographs for them also. Normally, according to F.A.G. guidelines, a memorial placed in the correct location takes precedence over one that is not. Yet these are your family; therefore I would rather send you edits, and once they are transferred to the Auburn Mausoleum, I will delete the ones I created. By the way, where in Iowa are you located? I have lots of family buried there!
Go to the George Metcalf memorial. I did a little research and found some of his siblings. I didn't find anything on Amos (his father). I created a memorial for Amos and his wife so their children would be linked together. It's not easy to locate someone without dates or some sort of info. I am not related to the Metcalfs. Hope I helped a little. Good luck on your search.
