Bio and Links
Bio Photo I'm a preservationist and historian descended from many generations in Texas.

I was so happy to find some "lost" ancestors through Find A Grave. I joined the Find A Grave community as a volunteer, to help other people find where their ancestors and loved ones are buried, and to see photographs of markers in cemeteries they will never be able to visit personally. So many wonderful, dedicated people have volunteered time and money to make this website a success. I am disappointed it is now owned by a for-profit company, using the time and efforts of numerous volunteers.

Please give credit to the volunteers who have created memorials, and ask permission to use photographs. I will be happy to add information to memorials, with proper documentation, and to transfer memorials, following the guidelines of Find A Grave.

NOTE: ancestry.com now allows anyone to make changes to a memorial, without the consent or knowledge of the person who created the memorial, thus destroying the integrity of carefully researched and documented memorials. PLEASE VERIFY ALL INFORMATION WITH YOUR OWN RESEARCH.

RE: Pvt Samuel L. Miller
Sharon,

I wasn't looking for you to transfer him to me, just provided information. So if you want to keep him, I don't mind a bit. Otherwise I'll do what I can to keep up his Find A Grave webpage. any tips on where I can go to learn more about what to do and how to it?

Joe

Pvt Samuel L. Miller
SLM was my 2nd great uncle. Thanks for setting up a Find A Grave site for him. Samuel Lamar Miller Jr was born and raised in Laurens Co, Georgia. His parents were Samuel Lamar Miller and Mary "Polly" Clark. He enlisted as a private in Company G, Georgia 49th Infantry Regiment on 16 May 1862 in Laurens County. I'm not sure of his birth date. Most people use 1845 but the 1850 census says that he was 4/12(4 months old)in Oct 1850. So I'm wondering if he lied about his age in order to join the CSA army. (Another of my ancestors from the same county did join at the age of 12 and fought and was wounded and captured at the Battle of Little Kennesaw Mountain at the age of 13!) SLM was captured on July 2,1863 at the Battle of Cemetery Hill, Gettysburg, Pa. He was sent to Fort McHenry and then to Fort Delaware prisons, where he died of disease.

Let me know if I can answer any more questions.

thanks very much, unexpected, but I will take good care of them and add lots of information and link family members. Appreciate your sharing and creating those memorials. Since you seem to know Cameron, Marshall County WV might you know of any burial lists for Fork Ridge and/or Highland Cemeteries? I'm looking for other members of this family. thank you!
