I send out 50 corrections a day so if you email me, please remind me which memorial we are talking about.|
A duplicate is the copy. Even if it has more information, or if it's your relative, or if it has a photo.
The one in the correct cemetery wins no matter how old it is.
If you don't get it, you are on the wrong site.
MAKING A MEMORIAL FROM A STONE IN THE CEMETERY
ya know . . some stones in the cemetery are NOT headstones. You don't make a memorial for a stone that designates a family area. You can put that photo on each of the family members' memorials.
TRANSFER REQUESTS posted here on my wall will be ignored. Use the 'edit' tab.
TRANSFER REQUESTS from people who have duplicates will be ignored. Clean up your mess.
TRANSFER REQUESTS from people with several "burial unknown" memorials that are not cremains will be ignored. Put things where they belong.
LINKS to "burial unknown" that are not cremains will be ignored. This isn't your scrap book, it's a website called FIND A GRAVE. Go find it, then add it.
Some free sites I find helpful:
CA birth index 1905-1995
CA death index 1905-1939
CA death index 1940-1997
Census and other indexes
Italian Cemetery Records
MO death certificates 1910-1962
San Francisco Mortuary index
On 28 JUL 2013 I was blessed to receive almost 45,000 abandoned memorials to work on in the Italian Cemetery in Colma, CA. On that day, my total went up to 49,973.
A year later the cemetery is really taking shape with so much help from so many people. I can't begin to thank everyone for; spending hours in the cemetery fulfilling photo requests, contributing obituaries, spending countless hours looking at indexes to send me edits, matching the memorials of individual body parts with the memorial for the rest of the body, taking entire families off my hands to work on even if they weren't relatives, and pointing out the duplicates to eradicate. Oh the thousands of duplicates. It was mind boggling.
My special thanks go to the people who have helped me do an intense search on memorials when their relatives in Italy email me requesting any information I can find.
I want to thank all the photographers out there getting headstone photos on memorials so the rest of us can sit on the couch and 'visit' our relatives. You may never know just how grateful we are.
What makes me smile?
*Seeing a duplicate disappear.
*Seeing a duplicate maker disappear.
*Memorials that have men with maiden names.
What makes me laugh out loud?
*Getting a transfer request sent to my email with no memorial number, no last name, and no member number.
ha ha It made me laugh again just telling you about it.
What makes me wonder?
*Seeing a contributor's bio with all the information needed to fill out a credit card application. Can you say "identity theft"?

You made 2 memorials for Gail B Andreson. Please delete one.
I sent you a message several months ago through the memorial, so now I'm trying this route."
Wow! you are a up-tite person, mellow out Samantha. That problem was taken care of when you informed me of it months ago. We are all out here doing the best we know how. For every minute you are angry you lose 60 seconds of happiness. If there is any thing else I can help you with don't hesitate to ask. Please make sure you know what you are referring to. Hope I didn't delete the wrong one but seance they were both alike who knew? Merry Christmas

Samantha, I usually delete the space in the last names, this one must have slipped by. I also check the cemetery listings for other family members and how they are entered. If there is a lot of entries that have the space I usually follow suit for consistency in those cases.
I have 49 memorials in the Italian Cemetery if you want to manage them. I live 150 miles away and have no connection or relation to them.

Truly sorry, Samantha that I can't be of further help. I'll do as you suggested if, and when, I can find anything further.
|Wilma Gilstrap||RE: Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Rev. James Barnette Smith|
I visited the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery again yesterday to try to tie up loose ends and photograph the cemetery 100%. I didn't quite succeed - have 5 tombstones I could not locate. I was very thorough in my search and am sorry to report that I could not find a tombstone for your g-great grandfather, Rev. Smith. Bessie Cyphert is buried beside Harry Ambrose Cyphert. They are next to John & Martha's tombstone. There is no room between for another gravesite, perhaps one with no marker, so I think it's safe to say that he is not there. Sorry that I can not resolve this for you.
On another note, are you familiar with the Cyphert's? I'm curious about the John & Martha tombstone which has the word FAMILY underneath the names. Three tombstones that I am missing are for their 3 children: Clara Jane, John Elton and Rose Ella. In reading the bios of the children, it seems one child had a disability and the 2 girls never married. I'm thinking perhaps they are all buried there and have the one big tombstone, however, it seems strange that their names would not be engraved on it. Do you have any info on this side of the family?
Even though the church is still active, it's not a big church so there's no office for me to visit to find out if they have accurate records maintained. When I go by there again, I'll try to get the pastor's name and contact him to see if he can put me in touch with the caretaker. It might be helpful to talk with that person.
|Wilma Gilstrap||Harrison Ambrose Cyphert, Mt. Pleasant, Corsica|
It appears you are in charge of a duplicate for the above named gentleman. He is listed as Harrison Ambrose, and Harry Ambrose Cyphert. The dates of birth and death coincide. Can you check it out. I realized this when I was photographing the tombstones. I did take another picture of Harry's tombstone if you need it.
Are you related to Bessie?
