Sylvester's father and my great-great-grandfather
were brothers. It took me a long time to track him down, because he was born in Gaveston, lived in Chicago and the moved to Houston, whereas my family lived in Louisiana. I would like to record the information I have gathered about him in this venue. Thanks, Claire McDonnell

Good reply! Since you asked, much of my information on the descendants of James Hope and Aletha H. Sorrels, which includes their granddaughter Frances Mosely Moffett comes from the research conducted by George W. Glass. His life long quest to find the marriage license for this union came to fruition when he found it recorded in Natchitoches Parish, La. dated 10 March 1824. There was a "large" law suite fought in Houston around the early 1900's regarding the estate of James Hope and the legality of the marriage to Aletha. Aletha and James had two daughters, Mary and Margaret Jane Hope. Margaret Jane Hope Booker died in 1854 when she and two of her children were struck by lightening walking home from church services.
All of George W. Glass' research is found in the Houston Public Library in their genealogical dept. His wife donated it to the Library after he died. Glass was the 3x great grandson of James and Aletha.
Thanks, Ima (Greg)
