Are you a genealogy addict ? Ask me about joining GoClub-Belmont County, a private social networking site where members share info. and photos regarding Belmont Co. genealogy.|
My brother "Skip" and I enjoy genealogy. He's my expert regarding Belmont county, OH. We both take photos of tombstones, especially of family members. Some of the surnames are Bain, Bane, Blaine, Budd, Curtis, Giffen, Giffin, Griffith, Haines, Hepburn, Hinkle, Keyser, Long, Milligan, Pond, Spears, Shahan, and Terrill.
I started using the FAG app on my iPhone to photograph tombstones and simultaneously record their gps location. It's so easy. I enjoy using it.
UPDATE: Skip started a GIFFEN DNA Group.
In addition to Belmont county, OH, we explore Ohio and Brooke counties in WV. I travel between Belmont Co and Columbus, OH. So, I make a few stops along the way, such as Cambridge or Zanesville.
I look for family tombstones across the country and try to link them back to Belmont Co., OH, Ohio Co., WV, and PA.
I have several GIFFEN / GIFFIN family trees at ancestry.com. There's my Giffen family which started with Robert and Mary (Bane) Giffen. Plus a family tree for the Andrew Giffin family. I recently started a Simon Giffin tree.
My ancestry.com tree name is "Terry Magyar"
More recently, I've added family trees for Giffens/Giffins in the following Ohio counties; Athens, Butler, Coshocton, Licking, Miami & Hamilton, and Ross County. Many of these Scotch-Irish lines can be followed back to the late 1700s, in Penn.
I presently live in Franklin Co., OH, but grew up in Belmont Co., OH.
Please contact me (use the EDIT function) if need an item corrected of if you have additional information regarding any of the these families.
I highly recommend the Cumberland Trail Genealogical Society's book "Your Guide to Belmont Co. Cemeteries". ($20 + shipping)

I hope I already responded, but if not here goes. Margaretes maiden name is LeFever, daughter of Campbell LeFever. She first married John Crow. I'm assuming he died and then she married Fitch in Belmont County in 1820. I am a member of Ancestry and this family is on my tree as they are my maternal 4th great grandparents via my mother who is Joyce I Miller by her mother Gladys Atkinson whose father was Fred Thompson adopted by Atkinson family upon death of his mother Margarete McGarry whose mother was Jane Fitch, daughter of Thomas and Margarete LeFever Crow Fitch.
if you have any other questions please let me know via my email firstname.lastname@example.org. Thank you! Wendy
|Kim Nelson||RE: Lydia Giffin|
The picture below the one you speak of on Lydia's memorial is in fact of Lydia (& Jane) Giffin. I know the clarity isn't as it is for Robert/Susan's side but it is the best I got the day it was taken. There is a picture on Jane's memorial with a shot of the full view of the stone; Jane/Lydia are on the left side while Robert/Susan are one right side of this picture.
*The same closeup photo of Jane/Lydia's side is on both of their memorials: Jane on the top half and Lydia on the bottom.
**If I remember correctly, Jane/Lydia's side is etched while Robert/Susan's side is engraved; probably why there is a difference in appearance. I will try to get another shot of Jane/Lydia's side on a cloudy day and perhaps this will improve the quality. Thanks for the inquiry!

Ralph Weser was my father and I have a wealth of information on his life. Which would be easier? Should I send the information to you or would you consider letting me take over his site. If it is the latter, I will certainly give you full credit for your work. My email address is wood email@example.com.
Your work has made all my family history available to me and I was ecstatic to find my father and all my relative's graves at my finger tips. My father died when I was eight and Mom was so busy working to support us that most of our history was lost to me. Thanks to you and others like you, I now know where I came from. You are an angel!!!
Thank you so much,

You are welcome, Terry. I'm still working on finding Helen Giffen's final resting place. Local historical society had no info on her after 1985, and the 1987 newspaper clipping of her obit is missing from the archives. I'll keep on it though. Take care, Mike

|Brookie Stalcup||Clara Griffith|
Terry, I am doing research on Clara O'Patroit (O'Patrey) Griffith, born in Ohio. She married George W. Coop and lived in Kentucky after she married. She was born around 1850 -51 and died in 1911. And help appreciated.
