Herron Family
Hi my name is Heather Mosley. My great grandfather's name is James Truman Herron. I know the mother's name is Mary Ann Cook, and that James Truman Herron is the youngest. I; however, do not know the name of the father. I only know he was murdered while carrying a payroll. He died a couple years after James Truman Herron was born. I know the Herron name is really big, and there is a big chance that my herron family has no connection to yours. But I figured I'd check just in case. My email is if you are not able to message me back on here.

5th Cousin Once Removed.
Hi Cousin, We are both descendants of Charles Burns of Henry Co. Va. Two of his sons are our ancestors. You are descended from William Burns of Clay Co. Kentucky. I am descended from his brother Alexander Burns of Blount Co. AL. Both and 4 other brothers were all Revolutionary War soldiers. I am CCC Compulsive Cousin Collector and while researching William Burns' descendants I ran across your excellent series of findagrave entries. Your informative info on your entries prompted me to drop you a line.

Give me a snailmail address and I will print out and mail to you ancestors you may not have...back on Mary Ann Martin Burns' lines back to UK in the 1500s.

I am a retired widower with free time on my hands and love to share info. The joy of Family Tree Research for me is being able to share. Let me share with you.

Thank you so much for your replies. No need to delete your memorial - maybe just amend the cemetery name? I would love to see the photo you have. If you'd like to email me directly, feel free at It appears we might be related somehow! - Susan Bailey

RE: Winnie Williams

Thanks for quick response. I have following info:

31 Jan, 1794 Clark County Kentuck Book 1 pg 6. Joshua Bartlett marries Winny Herring ( She gives own consent) Witnesses Daniel Williams, Dudley Curly; surety, Robinson Hunt.
(Note Daniel Williams may be Winny's brother)

Church Records: In Clark Co Kentucky the Llubegrud Baptist Church records show that John Herring returned on June 3, 1794 Winifred was kicked out of the church for marrying while already married. Source: Llulbegrud Baptist Church Records found on LDS Family History Library film # 183, 193.

Winny Williams married John Herring on 19 May 1788 in Madison Co, Kentucky. John Herring disappeared from Boonsboro & Winnie probably thought he had been killed by the Indians. When he came back in 1794, she was married to both men. She stayed with Joshua Bartlett.

In Joshua's 1812 Pension file, Winnie states that her maiden name is Williams. Also listed in Marriages of Clark Co, KY 1792-1851 pg &, in DAR Library, Washington. DC.

Note: Joshua Bartlett died 22 Apr 1828. He was buried in an unmarked grave covered by a slab stone on the South side of Falling Water just West of Hwy 70 , next to his daughter, Dorcas Whitaker who died young. (There are 3 slab stone markers here) There is a memorial marker at Brown's Mill Cemetery, Putnam Tennessee. Seems that this marker has incorrect date of 1831.

Above information sent by Bartlett Researcher.

I do not have proof of daughter of Winnie & John Herring, although I have seen it in ancestry trees. I hesitate to include it in mine.
Likely child could have been born. Where did you get info ? Question is why did John leave & gone so long & what happened to him?

Winnie Williams

Do you have info on John Herring- 1st husband of Winnie Williams married to Joshua Bartlett.
I see you left message on Find A Grave.

I have marriage of John & Winnie & info that he left & was thought killed by Indians. When he returned in 1794, Winnie was married to Joshua Bartlett.
Then what happened t John?
Do you know if they had any children? Someone left not that they possibly had daughter?

Thanks for any info or help.

You have placed a stone pic on this person

Mr Mike the owner of your person Has your person in the wrong Cem

Your picture should be placed in the East Bernstadt Pilgrims Rest Cem, not in (Black Water) Pilgrims Rest.

Please see if you can get your person in the correct place.

I only took the information from her death certificate, which are notoriously wrong about half the time. LOL.
I have no problem changing it. Nor do I have a problem transferring Alma to you. I am not related. Only transcribing the cemetery.
