piney grove
Jerry I found the Piney Grove that I think you were talking about and its in Grifton but in Pitt County. Riverside is before you get to Grifton and is in Craven County. I hope this helps.

RE: Riverside Christian Church
no I think that Dawn Stewart first set up the Riverside Cemetery survey back in 2011 and then I tried to help in 2013. the cemetery is adjacent to Riverside Christian Church,
Riverside Road (NCSR 1459) at Country Acres Road, Riverside, Craven County, North Carolina (between Vanceboro and Grifton).

the 2 Piney Grove cemeteries-one is located in Ernul and the other is an AME Cemetery and I don't know where it is-it just says Craven County.

if you give me his name and the dates, I'll see if I can find him for you.

RE: Riverside Christian Church
I never attended the church. My ex-husband's grandparents are buried in the cemetery. Here is a link from google maps for the location of Riverside Christian Church.

RE: James Feaginawas Grave photo
I photographed everything I could in the short time I had on the one summer day that I was there. There were a number of stones that were very weathered or otherwise difficult to read, but I had success with one of them by pouring a bit of water from my water bottle on the slate to bring out the text just long enough to snap a photo before the water evaporated in the heat. Sadly, it was about 95 degrees out at the time, so there was very little water left in the bottle. I wasn't about to use the water from the river, as god only knows what is in that, so I will have to go back again and see if I can get a better reading on the surviving stones using either just bottled water or a mirror to direct light into the inscriptions in hopes of actually making something out. Sadly, as I said before, many of the stones are just too severely damaged for any information to be pulled from them.

RE: James Feaginawas Grave photo
The graveyard is in horrible shape, or at least it was when I was there last. Some attempts have been made to redo the carving on some of the older stones and to repair or replace a few, but overall it's a total mess. The biggest problem is that it is in the middle of nowhere, situated at the edge of a parking lot at a boat launch site, which means it is a prime spot for vandalism. So many of the stones are broken or so badly eroded that it is impossible to even determine whose grave they mark, if they are even set where they belonged to begin with. The friend that took me to photograph the place said that 10 years or so back, there were far more stones there, going all the way down from the area where the back fence is, to the water, but all those are gone now. I found bits and pieces of broken stones just laying in piles and it made me want to cry. So much history and so many people just lost and forgotten now because there don't seem to be any complete burial records for the cemetery anymore.

Jimmy and Dorothy Mae Briley
They were married 10-11-49 according to their grave marker. I noted it, as well as the grave location, in the captions.
Take care.

RE: William James Cornelius
Well, I got it from a dar file of a relative of one of annie Britton.s granddaughters. She's a speight. I'm working with a daughter of Walter peterson Speight JR to get her into the DAR. There are also pictures of lemuel and Nancy's and of Annie's in the file. I'm seeking some documentation, like a deed or will to link lemuel to his father. In the DAR file, created in the 1960's, they accepted the link but I see no proof documentation. I have a death certificate for Annie naming her parents. and death certificates from her forward. Mary Chessons/Sessums britton was still living in 1852 when she filed for a widow's pension for her husband's service. it was rejected because she couldn't prove her marriage date. Unfortunately no children were named in it.
