"Flags wave again over veterans' graves in Walpole."

While reading gravestones for my Walpole, NH cemetery books in 2001, I found stones with a notation they were a Veteran, however, there wasn't a flag holder/veteran marker. Thus, the Veteran would not be honored with an American flag. After I found 20 or 30, I said, "Wow!" I began a list, and when finished reading all the gravestones in the cemeteries I did research in the book "A History of Walpole," and when completed, there were 98 Veteran graves without markers! As an Eagle Scout I could not ignore this; these Veterans at least deserve a flag on their grave. I contacted the local American Legion post and found they usually only provide the markers for their own members. After I mentioned, "If you don't do it, who will?", they went beyond themselves, raised the funds, purchased the markers, and placed one on every grave where I noted where one was missing. Thank you American Legion Post #77.
