I have been doing family history research since completing a cub scout merit badge over 30 years ago. As a teen, I began walking and cycling through area cemeteries, noting familiar surnames and wondering if they were related. In high school, I helped a friend's grandmother work on her family history, as she had trouble reading what she had typed. This was "old school" genealogy - collecting and trading books, writing letters to genealogy societies, and contacting various relatives by telephone and mail. Times have changed!

I am also a licensed Amateur Radio operator. Licensed as KA9HTW in 1980 (Novice), upgrading to Advanced class in the spring of 1981. Later upgraded to Extra class, changing my call to WQ9T. I work as a journeyman electrician, and am a member of IBEW local 34, Peoria, for over 25 years. Former member UFCW. I have been married for over 22 years, with two children.

William Smith Sterling
William Smith Sterling is my grandfather. The gentleman you entered in Warren County is not him. William resided in Henderson County from the 1850s on. He and his family are found in Township 11 Range 5, Henderson County, Illinois in the 1870 census. Based on his obituary in the Oquawka Spectator, he died in Oquawka on March 23, 1897 and is buried in the Oquawka Cemetery. I would appreciate you making the correction.

George Christie/Christy
I will add a note to the memorial about the name spelling. If you have a picture of his headstone and can add that, I will change his name to Christy. I used the obituary as a source for the memorial.

William D. Richards
Wm. D. Richards was my great grandfather. I recently discovered that even tho he lived in Wayne County,Ill, he died in Jefferson County. I got a copy of his death cert from the Jefferson County Courthouse. According to the death certificate he was born April 28, 1860 in Jeffersonville, Wayne County, Ill and he died on March 28, 1921 in Mt. Vernon, Jefferson County, Ill.

HUDSONs
I just wanted to let you know, that I can only go by what SusAnn Fuller left with me, and I noticed her bio for Thomas Hudson has a list of children. So I went back and deleted the spouses and children that I could from his memorial till we can get it straighten our. You new info, showed me Id better search a little stronger about that fammily branch, since Ancestry is going to make trees out of our posts :(
