Califernia Hendryx Buchanan
Hi,

Could you tell me your source for Califernia Hendryx's first marriage to Charles Waddell. According to my sources, her first husband was my great uncle Julius Exster (I have copies of the Center Point church records as my source).

Thanks for any info!

Hi Roxie! Thank you for posting my Great Grandfathers resting place. But I noticed some of the info is differently than Bill Cooks site. We always thought he passed away in Carlyle, Il. Can I ask your source for your info? But thank you again for posting this. I have only been to the grave once, when I was younger.

Leslie G. McClellan
Thank you for the great picture of Leslie McClellan's memorial in Hickory Grove Cemetery. Would you mind if we used it in our Ingels Family web site and our tree in ancestry with credit given to you? Thanks again, we will pass the favor on.

Roxie,

Thank you for creating this memorial! This is my husband's father and I would like to know if you would be willing to transfer management of his record (#113258626) to me? We would greatly appreciate it if you do!

Thanks,
Karen

Alexander Grigsby
So far, this is the strongest evidence that the Grigsby children born in the late 1870's to about 1892 were the children of Alexander Grigsby and Susie Lee. (I've found several slight differences in Alex Grigsby's birth date but it is the same person.)

Also found a land record for Alexander Grigsby that puts him in the area of Auberry / Pine Ridge / Toll House, etc. by 1872.

Name:
Alex Grigsby

SSN:
558321486

Gender:
Male

Birth Date:
Jul 1880

Birth Place:
Auberry, California

Father:
Alexander Grigsby

Mother:
Susie

Type of Claim:
Original SSN.

Notes:
Jun 1943: Name listed as ALEX GRIGSBY

Unless I can dig up something new, it really is speculative and the conclusions are based on limited Grigsby candidates in VERY near proximity. I'm planning to change the "probable" to "possible" on my tree and replace the one on WorldConnect. Might make you more comfortable and myself as well.

John Flemming Burton
Found John Burton right where I'd expect on an early voter's list for Mechanicsville (historical school) near Humphreys Station on Tollhouse Road, south of Tollhouse. I've been to (inside) Humphreys Station and driven past many times in past (younger) years.

Hope the link works to what I have on Alexander Grigsby:

Yes, Tollhouse (Toll House) is in the very near / adjacent area of Auberry and Burrough Valley where Susie Lee, Benjamin Hancock, and Alexander Grigsby lived; also several groups of Mono Indian People. Quite a few white men "married" native women; sometimes officially, sometimes not.

Interesting that Alexander's daughter Hester lived in the area, too. Will try and find something on her if you'd like. If she was married, would need her married name.

You mentioned Susie having younger Grigsby's in the household, seem to remember some grandchildren with her. Some of the native census records are quite different than the regular federal censuses too.

Off the top of my head, I don't believe I ever found a documenting record. Had hoped someone might contact me with something to help confirm the conclusion. I remember checking another possible man or two in California without finding anything to connect them to Suzie. If memory serves, Alexander was certainly in the right place at the right time. And it's possible there wasn't ever a formal marriage. I'll have another go at it and see if something new turns up.
