|Loretta Lynn Layman||P.S.|
Hannah Sophia Brown Benchoff was still living in 1920, and very probably is the woman identified as Mary Ellen, who died in 1910. Please see my previous message. Thanks!

I've been studying the historical records of this family, and the woman identified as Mary Ellen Brown Johnston probably is her sister, Hannah Sophia, wife of James Benchoff. James and Hannah marriage certificate is dated September 1905, and the 1910 and 1920 census records show that their granddaughter Alice was born in 1906. At the same time, Mary Ellen Brown Johnston died in February 1910, and the girl identified as Alice in this photo has to be a few years older than 4. I'd like very much to hear from you.

I was very glad to see this photo! Mary Ellen Brown and her husband, John Aaron Johnston, are my husband's great-grandparents. Do you also have a photo of John Johnston?
Their daughter and son-in-law Maude Belle Johnston and Harry Kramer Layman are my husband's grandparents. We have great photos of them but not of John and Mary Ellen Johnston.
Also, I have a question about this photo. Was "Beth" was a nickname for Maude's sister Bertha, who married Charles Henry Creager? I have the 1900 census, which says Mary Ellen (Brown) Johnston had 10 children total and 9 children living; there were 8 children in the household; Maude was already married and out of the household; and none of the daughters at home had the name Beth or Elizabeth.

I just received a picture I thought you'd like to see. I send it to an old email address I have for you. Hope you get it. If not, I need your new address. Pam
