Bio and Links
Bio Photo I'm a member of the Shelby County Historical and Genealogical Society and I used to volunteer at the Effingham County courthouse looking up public court records. I've been interested in my family history for about ten years and this is my biggest reason for being a member of findagrave. I've found cemetery records helpful in discovering family members, their spouses, and their birth and death dates. It also helps me to organize my own records and meeting distant cousins to share information with. I don't always have the time to help others get photos, but if I get a chance I'll try to help out.

John Huffer
Hi Chad, saw your marker for John Huffer. He's my great great gdad. I saw that you have Elcey as his wife. I'm evidently finding 2 John Huffers for his dob. One has a wife Allie Collins and one Elcey Davis. Do you know if these are the same people?
appreciate your help. My line runs through Samuel Huffer then Albert Manning. Robin Allen

RE: Holman
Thomas and Jane Holman are my 3rd great grandparents also on my mother side. Their Son Elon Jessie is my 2n great and his son George H Holman is my great. I know very little about George only that he skip out on my grandmother and our mom, (Martha Ann Hosfelt), when she was a baby.

Looks like we might be related some how.
I live in Fullerton, California.
If you have and info ton the family, I would love to hear about it.

Chad, would you mind transferring Thomas (#63370147) and Jane (#63370283) to me. They are my 3rd great grandfather and grandmother.

Huffer Family
Hi Chad,

I noticed your memorial for Elcey Huffer--are you related to the Huffers? I'm doing some research on Davis Huffer who is on my wife's side of the family.

Is it possible that some of Sahah Lowry Leith's children changed their surname to Lee? I have a g-g-grandfather buried in the same cemetery and his name is William Lee.

RE: Manharts in Shelby County
Chad - I'm related to some of the Manharts. I am a Leffler descendant and Eva May Swingle (1873-1948) who married John Henry Manhart (1878-19610 is also a Leffler descendant and therefore her children would also be Leffler descendants. Her children, whose names I found in census reports and whose birth dates are approximate, are: John Franklin, 1908; Margaret, 1910; Katherine, 1912; and Evalyn, 1914. If you know anything about these children, I would ba glad to have the information.
Eva's parents were Solomon Swingle (1825-1912) and Margaret Ellen Baughman (1838-1924) and Solomon's parents were Nicholas Swingle (1789-1858) and Mary Magdalene Leffler (1802-1866). Solomon and Margaret were born in Ohio and were in Douglas Twp, Effingham County in 1870 and then in Holland Twp, Shelby County in 1880 then to Prairie Twp by 1900. Solomon's parents were both born in PA and came to the Morgan County area by 1820 or so. They are buried in a small church cemetery in the very northwestern part of Morgan County. I have a lot of ancestors buried in that cemetery.
I wish I had more on your Manhart family to help you. Keep up with history and genealogy, it is all fascinating - a worthwhile way to spend your time. (School psychology paid better so I left the history to pursue a master's degree in that, but now I am retired and work on my family almost every day - usually for several hours.) If there is anything I can do to help you, just send me a message. I live near Newton and will be coming to Shelby County when it is a little cooler to do some research.
