Bio and Links
Bio Photo I am a retired Army Officer, Civil War enthusiast, and amateur genealogist with an excellent camera. I am also an old geezer who needs the exercise I get walking the 100+ cemeteries of Rockbridge County, Virginia (most of them are hilly).

If anyone is not satisfied with any photo of a grave marker that I have taken, please let me know via email and I will be glad to either remove it or retake the image. Likewise, if I create a memorial that is offensive or incorrect in any way, let me know and I will either correct the information or remove the memorial.

I try hard to take a photograph where the information on the marker is readable in the image. I DO NOT CLEAN STONES, but upon request, I will return when there is a different light situation to see if I can capture a better image. Also, I do not post images to a memorial that already has a photo unless there is a request for a better photo. But I may at times add a photo to a memorial that has no image even without a request.

Family members have my permission to privately use my photos of the grave markers of your ancestors for genealogical purposes on sites such as or, but DO NOT COPY elsewhere on Find A Grave, Billion Graves, other sites listing graves, the internet or for commercial use. My photos all have a copyright embedded in the image metadata. Please email me if you use one of my photos so I know they are being appreciated elsewhere.

I will be glad to transfer any memorial I have created if it is for one of your ancestors within 4 generations and not in my direct line. Once I transfer a memorial, you may alter it, but it shall NOT be deleted.

RE: Allen
Glad it helped! That was a sweet little cemetery, and I looked at every barely legible stone to see which burial record it matched up with, and was able to add a fair number there. I skipped one that was on the edge, facing poison ivy, but peering at it I am not sure anything could be read anyway. I think all the legible stones are now photographed. Good luck with the Allen line.

Lebanon Cemetery in Craigsville
Carl, I recently came in contact w/ a person who has seen the original cemetery behind the church location. They say it is about 1 mi up the hill.
I am curious if you are aware of it, or know the man who is caring for it. My name is Tracie and I am related to the Youngs of Lebanon. In fact. I am caring for yet another Lebanon cemetery in Monroe co. and I am very curious if the history of the church there is on paper. i need to know when it was started , who the pastor was etc. please call me if you know anything, 304-661-1915 or email me Thanks!

Holden Family
Hi Carl - I am researching the Holden family and think I may be related to John Holden (and Elizabeth Holden), whose graves/headstones you photographed. Do you see any other Holdens around them? I am looking for John's parents. I am related to James T Holden and think John may be his brother. Thanks for your time.
