Bio Photo So Many Ancestors....So Little Time..
I was born in N.C. a long time ago and have lived in VA. for quite some time.
I enjoy researching civil war soldiers and their families and live in the Heart of the Confederacy.
I enjoy painting with acrylics, especially Old Homeplaces..Beach Scenes..Old Depots, any OLD buildings and such!
I have been Following the Periwinkle in Henry County, VA. and surrounding areas for over 25 years and have enjoyed every minute. :O)
There are many soldiers in my virtual Confederate Cemetery here on Findagrave.
If I can help you with anything, please feel free to ask me.
If you want me to transfer a memorial Please Include Your Findagrave # and go to Edit and ask me there.
I want to thank all the people that have helped me with my research over the years.
Two are Laura Rust and Eugene Landreth who helped my Mom and I when we first started our quest in the 1980s.
The "stories" are what make our ancestors on findagrave come alive once more.

To Forget Ones Ancestors Is To Be A Brook Without A Source, A Tree Without A Root.....

Dear Ancestor,
YOUR TOMBSTONE STANDS AMONG THE REST
NEGLECTED AND ALONE
THE NAME AND DATE HAVE WORN OFF
THE WEATHERED MARBLE STONE
IT REACHES OUT TO ALL WHO CARE.
IT'S NOW TOO LATE TO MOURN
YOU DID NOT KNOW THAT I'D EXIST
YOU DIED....AND I WAS BORN
YET EACH OF US ARE CELLS OF YOU
IN FLESH, IN BLOOD, IN BONE.
OUR HEARTS CONTRACT AND BEAT A PULSE
ENTIRELY NOT OUR OWN
DEAR ANCESTOR, THE PLACE YOU FILLED
SOME HUNDRED YEARS AGO
SPREADS OUT AMONG THE ONES YOU LEFT
WHO WOULD HAVE LOVED YOU SO
I WONDER HOW YOU LIVED AND LOVED.
I WONDER IF YOU KNEW
THAT SOMEDAY I WOULD FIND THIS PLACE
AND COME TO VISIT YOU.....

Find A Grave gives us an "Unknown" choice for burials or cremations, etc. and if it's a known fact that these people are dead, and they will most likely never be officially linked to any particular burial place, they also have a right to be remembered and to be linked to their other family members.
I will gladly link those who have an unknown status.
That can easily be changed if they are proved to be in any particular place.
They were somebody too, and deserve to be remembered.
If you send me a request and I do not address it within a few days, please re-send!
If you re-send and still get no response, go ahead and list my memorial on here, because I'm probably dead. :)

Sheffield
John and Lucy Sheffield are the only two listed with that name in the Spring Hill Cemetery. I posted Lucy's marker. She is in the Mausoleum next to John.

I have a picture of this former AL. Polytech president from the 1897 Glomerata, but I can't add because 5 is the max. I will send it to you to add if you'd like, after you remove one of the pictures of the graves.
Let me know. I just think the memorials seem more personal when you can see the person's picture.
THANKS!

RE: Alice May Hannah
I see the Find A Grave page may have been updated with previous burial? We don't remember seeing that before, sorry. We'll update our page for the time being that she's in NC or probably take it down. We may come across her parents. We are digging through a lot of historical paperwork.

RE: Reese Henderson Wheeler obit
I do not know if he has a headstone or not. The man that found his obituary is going to make contact with the caretaker of the cemetery. If he does not have headstone, I will apply for govt one. It would be nice to have ceremony placing it, thanks for telling me about that.

RE: Reese Henderson Wheeler obit
Thank you. I removed my note looking for his grave site and your obituary did look better so I removed mine. I believe I put flowers with notes on some relatives looking for grave site and I will remove those too. thanks for reminder.

RE: peter gilbert photo
I forgot Find A Grave does not say they have to be legible. If you don't believe me read it.
