Looking for graves of Anton Mueller (born 1808) and his wife, Magdalena (1805-1886), in either Peoria County or Champaign County, IL.

Native of northern California, now living in a forgotten corner of Michigan that has the oldest, most fascinating graveyards I've ever seen.

Tell me what you think...are we making head way in the effort to link all the children of Abner J and their individual mothers?

Wilhelms and Ernsts
All the descendants of Nick Wilhelm and Magdalena Mueller Wilhelm, and all the descendants of Albert Ernst and Teresia Mueller Ernst, are genetically related through their Mueller mothers, g.mothers, gg.mothers, etc., meaning Magdalena and Teresia. This is the part of the family history that has been lost.

Among these descendants of the two Mueller sisters, there are two "double" lines.

Peter Wilhelm happened to marry into the Mueller family as well, through his Ernst bride Mary Ann. Peter was not a Mueller, nor was his brother Nick Wilhelm. But, Peter's children, and Nick's children, both carrying the Wilhelm name, were "doubly" related through both their fathers (who were brothers) and their mothers (Magdalena Mueller Wilhelm was Mary Ann Ernst Wilhelm's blood aunt), sharing both Mueller and Wilhelm genes.

On a Wilhelm basis, the children were full first cousins, but very far apart in age, as Nick married 15 years before Peter.

On a Mueller basis, Magdalena's children were full first cousins to Mary Anne and the rest of her siblings, therefore Mary Anne and Peter Wilhelm's children were "1st cousins once removed" to Magdalena's children, and 2nd cousins to Magdalena's grandchildren.

Your ancestor Sophia married John Matthew Ernst, who like his sister Mary Anne was a full Mueller first cousin to all of Nick and Magdalena's children. Nick and Magdalena's firstborn, Anton, albeit 10 years older, knew his first cousin John Matthew very well. Anton's youngest Clara, and John Matthew's twins, were born the same year of 1897-98, and played together at Anton's farm near Mooney Cemetery. Anton's great grandchildren own the farm today. Clara and her Mueller twin 2nd cousins grew up, and Clara became close friends with Bessie, one of their wives. Clara's youngest and Bessie's only child were 3rd Mueller cousins. They remained lifelong friends. If your B/H could call my J/M this weekend, that would be good. To email me, see my Deir profile for the address.

You may have known John. John and I were good friends, and he was so instrumental in helping me "connect the dots" of the families.

corection: Teresia's daughter was Mary Anne
"So, it makes sense that Teresia named her firstborn daughter "Lena" after her mother."

Sorry, the above that I just wrote was in error. Albert and Teresia Ernst named their firstborn Mary Anne, perhaps after Albert's mother? Then that daughter Mary Anne and her husband Peter Wilhelm named their first daughter Marie Antoinette (which is curiously French, but then they were from Alsace). Mary Anne and Peter later named their second daughter Mary Magdalena (Lena). Peter's brother Nick and his wife Mary Magdalena Mueller also had a daughter named Lena.

To keep things clear, I did these pages for the Mueller ancestors: Johann Antonie Mueller and his wife Mary Margaret-Magdalene Weckerle. A French website lists Johann as "Jean Antoine", so one wonders whether their everyday names were French or German.

I gathered research from multiple sources, including your research regarding the Mueller family's specific ship and journey (thank you for that effort!).

It would be helpful if you would now link Teresia to her parents. No, I have not been able to find their burial sites. I know they lived in the vicinity of West Rome Rd. in the Mooney Settlement area. Thus they could be buried in Mooney Cemetery (unless they moved away).

wrong photo of Mary Magdalena "Lena" Wilhelm Pfeffer
Hi -

The photo of the German-American bride that you have on the pages below, you have identified as Mary Magdalena "Lena" Wilhelm Pfeffer, the granddaughter of Albert and Teresia Mueller Ernst.

I am 100% certain that this photo is in fact my great-grandmother Mary Ann Thome Wilhelm, as I was looking at the same photo just a week ago in my mother's album ! This is the wedding photo of Anton Wilhelm (the firstborn of Nicholas Wilhelm and his wife Magdalena Mueller Wilhelm), and Anton's wife Mary Ann Thome Wilhelm, my mother's grandmother known as "Grandma Wilhelm".

Mary Ann Thome was not related in any way to either the Wilhelms or the Muellers, that I know of (nor the Ernsts either). I am quite certain of that actually, as a Thome descendant spent a decade trying to track Mary Ann's mysterious Thome family back to Germany, and he did find their home village.

Nick Wilhelm arrived in Chillicothe from Germany in the early 1850s, and soon married Magdalena Mueller by virtue of the fact that the Muellers lived next to the farm Nick bought on what is now West Rome Rd, near Mooney Cemetery. Back in Germany Nick and Magdalena's families lived 80 miles apart, in the Alsace region. Magdalena had an older sister Teresia Mueller, who married first in Chillicothe (to Albert Ernst).

Nick had several brothers, among then a younger brother Peter, who apparently followed Nick to the Peoria area. About 15 years after Nick and Magdalena married, in 1869 Peter married Mary Ann Ernst, the daughter of Albert and Teresia Mueller Ernst.

Nick and Peter Wilhelm's mother was named Maria Ludwig, so the name Magdalena didn't come from that side that I know of. Magdalena and Teresia Mueller's mother was named Mary Margaret, or Mary Magdalena, or Mary Madeleine Weckerle. So, it makes sense that Teresia named her firstborn daughter "Lena" after her mother.

Johann Mueller married Mary Margaret/Magdalena Weckerle, probably in Bremmelbach (present day Cleebourg in Alsace France) where they had both been born and raised, in 1827, when he was just 20 and she was 24. Johann appears to have been Mary Margaret's "first cousin once removed", since Johann's mother and Mary Margaret were full first cousins, their fathers being full brothers.
