I started actively researching the family ancestry in 2006 and my daughter started almost 20 years earlier. In this search, we have looked for the final resting places of our ancestors and their families. We found many, but some are lost and the cemeteries abandoned, uncared for &/or destroyed. For this reason, I am especially interested in documenting and preserving the memory of the pioneer cemeteries and those buried in them.|
I am a member of the Genealogical Society of Marion County (Indiana).
Although the Internet is a great tool and source of genealogical information, a lot of this information is incorrect, misleading and self-perpetuating. Just because it is written, does not make it true. Facts are not facts until they are proven. (That is why Ancestry.com calls everything a "hint".) Remember that genealogy without documentation is mythology!
Find A Grave is no exception. There are memorials with incorrect personal information, the wrong cemetery (even with photos from the correct cemetery) or showing cemeteries that don't exist or have made up names. So treat everything as a hint until it is verified as a fact. Remember that bad information is never right and it can cause others to stop looking for the truth.
Corrections and additions to my Find A Grave postings are always welcome. Please use the Edit tab on the memorial and click on the Suggest a Correction ("SAC") link. Also use the SAC link for transfer request. Transfers outside Find A Grave guidelines will be assessed on a case by case basis. Please state your specific relationship to the deceased.
Any posted grave marker photos I have taken may be copied for personal or genealogical use as long as credit is given. Written biographies may NOT be copied without permission. (Posting them on the internet, does not make them free to use.)

Thank you for your generosity in transferring:
Amanda Virginia Perrel Avery # 86713178
to my care.
I have successfully connected her with her husband and one of her five children.
As I receive more information, I will add it to Our shared memorial.
With sincerest appreciation,

I don't time stamp my photos (sometimes find it annoying to see it in the corner of a photo) but I can do about the same thing by looking at the properties that is listed for the photo. Mostly I just try to walk the cemetery in rows, so the photos are lined up that way in my digital files. Have gone back many times when someone asks who was buried on either side and I can see at a glance. Only thing I can't tell them is left or right because I'm not THAT detail oriented and walk down one row and back the next. But I usually can give someone my best guess as to who was nearby.
Tried to get more info on Milford cemetery when I was visiting this past May but Dwiggins caretaker says he doesn't really have anything for the old section. He first said he had a plat and then when I met when him he said it was just a piece of paper noting that the old section was there - but nothing actually written with plot owners. I was exceedingly disappointed. I said, "so if you don't know it someone owns the lot to the left of where my sister is buried, then I could plop a headstone there since it will only be my ashes and they can be dropped in the area where my parents are buried since they were both cremated." I really don't remember if there are 5 or 6 spaces. I thought it was only 5 - grandparents, parents, and sister Bev. But I know there is no headstone for anyone else next to my sister. He said he wasn't sure if anyone would dispute me if I said there was supposed to be 6 spaces and not just the 5. So much for Milford record keeping!

|John Scott||James Edward Scott|
I am currently looking for information on my G3 Grandfather James Edward Scott born in Indiana in 1819. He moved to Missouri in Johnson Co. I saw on one of your IndyScot web site that Joel Scotts son was also born in Indiana in 1819. But you give James Edwards date of death as 1879. I suspect that my James Edward and your James Edward ancestor are one and the same. The problem I am trying to resolve is that mine did not die until 1901. I was wondering where I might be able to find the information on the date of death for your James Edward so I can possibly eliminate him as an ancestor.

I wonder what name is on her headstone. Hopefully the photo request is going to show. Then the memorial can match her headstone.

I have been scratching my head all morning trying to figure out how to put her religious name. Then your edit came through. I had her as sister Assumpiade. Then I was looking and it didn't look right under the nick name. So THANK YOU for the suggestion. Of just posting to her bio.

I haven't been able to access the website since last night. I get a redirect saying the domain name has expired. Can you let me know what's happening? Thanks!
|Kathy Phelan||Blanch Collins|
I found her marriage record. It lists her birth date as 7/7/1884 - go figure. She could have fudged.
She married Clifford Joseph on 7/23/1913
They raised George Schwartz Collins. They never adopted him and I don't know how or why they got custody of him. It is a family mystery.
P.S. George's real parents: John Henry and Pearl Corman Schwartz and his older brother, Lee were all killed in 1925 in a train/auto accident.
Don't know if the Collins were related.

Yes I did take this memorial off and will add under the correct cemetery. Would like to know if you do cemetery photo's of head stones if so when I add the memorials would you please add the head stones if possible.
And thanks for the help on the same cemetery after I pulled up the map it looks like the same one. I was going by the address they posted on the net which gives Holt Road.
Thank you so much.
