Projects I am currently working on are listed below.
19th Indiana Infantry, Civil War - Working with a team of contributors to build a virtual cemetery for this "Iron Brigade of the West" regiment. Phil Harris is identifying and photographing as many burial locations as possible for soldiers in this regiment. Rick France, Greg Tompkins, Eric Lowman, Deanna Peterson and I support his work. Phil does his own investigative research to locate the burial sites. When he identifies unmarked graves or badly deteriorated markers that are beyond repair, he works with the Veterans Administration to have new markers made. He then installs the 200 lb. markers all by himself. Sometimes he gets a little help.
Phil's web site for the 19th Indiana is at http://www.19thindianaironbrigade.com. Phil and other 19th Indiana Infantry volunteers have personally visited the grave sites of the men who served in this regiment. Here is the list of the unmarked graves they have identified, and of markers that need to be replaced or repaired.
US-Dakota War - Coordinating the development of a virtual cemetery for people who were key figures, survivors, victims, or casualties of the US-Dakota War, including Native Americans. Many volunteers have contributed to this project. The Dakota voice needs much better and stronger representation in this history. Please feel free to contact me if you'd like to help.
Genealogy and Family History - Surnames that I am researching include Adams, Andersson, Beebe/Beeby, Berglund, Brandl, Brooks, Christiansen /Christensen, Coffin, Gilmore, Howell, Jensen, Larson, Malmstrom, Morgan, Piehl, Pikal, Randall, Rowe, Stewart, Stroud, Suchomel, Taber/Tabor, Van Slyck, Vikre/Wickre/Wikre, and Wilcox.
Thanks to all the contributors who have generously transferred memorials, responded to photo requests, or reached out in many other ways to help with these projects.
Corrections/updates to records: Please do not use the "virtual flower" feature of Find A Grave to submit corrections or additions; this is improper use of the feature. To submit corrections or add information to memorials, please use the "Suggest a Correction" feature in the memorial. (Click the Edit tab, then click the "Suggest a correction..." link.)
There is a strict policy against creating duplicates on Find A Grave. Please see Help With Find A Grave for detailed web site guidelines, including information about handling unknown or non-cemetery memorials.
I will transfer memorials within Find A Grave's transfer guidelines. Please state your family relationship to the ancestor for which you are requesting a transfer (for example, "great grandson").
